  • A Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID is a username and password that allows you to access and sign the FAFSA application
  • Every contributor (student, parent, stepparent, spouse) must have their own FSA ID
  • Federal Taxes will be transferred directly from the IRS with consent. Have taxes from 2 years prior ready.
  • New FAFSA application available every year. 2024 – 2025 is now available. 2025 – 2026 FAFSA is scheduled to be released for everyone on December 1, 2024

Who Completes the CADAA? (Dream Act)

California State Aid Application

AB 540 / SB 68 / SB2000 Eligible Student Who are:

    • Undocumented individuals
    • DACAmented individuals
    • U visa holders
    • Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders

Other Eligibility Criteria for State Aid

    • Be a California resident for one year
    • Attend a qualifying California College
    • Demonstrate financial need
    • Qualify based on family income and asset thresholds
    • Enroll in an eligible degree or certificate program

AB-540 Questions

Must be able to say yes to meet the AB-540 Criteria when completing the Dream Act Application.

CA Dream Act Application

  • If you are a permanent resident or citizen, you do not complete the Dream Act Application

  • If you are not AB-540 eligible, you may not be eligible for the Dream Act application at the moment and should not continue. Please seek guidance from your college to determine your residency

  • Parents are required to sign their Dream Act application using the parent sign

Step 2: Review your FAFSA/CADAA Submission Summary

  • Confirms you have submitted your application. Also look for an SAI value (-1500 to 99999)
  • At the end of your FAFSA submission, keep an eye for any notices of missing or incorrect information (may be selected for verification)
  • You are able to make corrections to your application if you feel you incorrectly entered information
  • It takes 1-3 days for your application to be processed and accessible by the financial aid office

STEP 4: AWARD LETTER & ELIGIBILITY

  • Award Letter is a helpful tool to understand what financial aid you are eligible for. Can typically be found in most school’s self service.
  • Award letters will show COA and Awarded aid per semester
  • Financial aid is impacted by your estimated Cost of attendance, SAI, other financial aid received, and the units you’re enrolled in.

Basic Eligibility Criteria For Financial Aid

    • Demonstrate financial. There are income limits to certain aid.

SAI

    • Be a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen; AB-540

Residency

    • Have a valid Social Security number (if applicable)

SSN

    • Be enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program

Major Type

    • Be enrolled at least half time to be considered for some types of aid or loans

Units

    • Maintain satisfactory academic progress

SAP

    • Demonstrate that you are not on default of a loan or owe money to DOE or a school

No balances

    • GED, High School (HS) graduate, HS equivalent, HS grad foreign country

HS Grad

    • Complete any tasks on file that may arise from verification or FAFSA/CADAA corrections.

Tuition Waiver/Awards

WCC Promise Award

Eligibility Requirements:

    • Complete FAFSA/CADAA application
    • Not be eligible for the California College Promise Grant (CCPG), former BOG waiver
    • First time attending WCC since graduating
    • Enrolled in 12-15 units
    • C.A. state resident

WCC Woodland Promise

Eligibility Requirements:

    • Complete FAFSA/CADAA application
    • Complete the WCC Woodland City Promise application
    • First time attending WCC since graduating
    • Enrolled in 12-15 units
    • Be a Woodland City Resident
    • Graduated from a Woodland HS from WJUSD

California College Promise Grant (CCPG) income based

Eligibility Requirements

  • FAFSA/CADAA completion or CCPG application
  • Income limit: Family size of 1 = $21,870. Add $7,710 for every additional member
  • No minimum unit requirement

Non income based

  • Submit FAFSA or CADAA by March 2nd (priority deadline - encouraged) or Sep 2nd (for Community Colleges) and GPA verification form if you haven’t completed 24 units at WCC to the California Student Aid Commision (CSAC) by Sep 2nd
  • Must meet most basic FA award eligibility such as be half time and meet SAP.
  • Cal Grant A typically not awarded at Community Colleges, some instances when there is exceptional need. $6000 total for full time ($3000 per semester)
  • Cal grant B commonly used in community colleges. Annual maximum award amount is $1648 unless student certifies they have dependents under 18 years old, then the annual maximum amount is $6000 ($3000 per semester).
    • SWD – Students with dependents – must certify in WebGrants
  • Cal Grant C only for very specific vocational programs. Not common. This must be verified by FA office. Annual $1094
  • 24–25-year Priority Deadline was May 2nd, 2024 (September 2nd, 2024 for community colleges)
    • There will be an introduction to new names of Cal Grant that will replace Cal Grant A & B to Cal Grant 2 & 4; not in effect as of 2024-2025
  • Students can request a leave of absence at Webgrants if they want to save their CalGrant for a 4-year univeristy

CAL GRANT A,B,C

  • In addition to Cal Grant B & C, you can qualify for this award that serves as an incentive if you enroll full time and are Cal Grant eligible
  • If you’re in at least 12 units you can be eligible for $1298 per semester.
  • If you’re in at least 15 units you can be eligible for $4000 per semester.
  • If you are current or former foster youth and at least 12 units, then you are eligible for $5250 per semester.

STUDENT SUCCESS COMPLETION GRANT

CHAFEE Grant

  • A grant for students who are a current or former foster youth who was a ward of the court, living in foster care, between the ages of 16 and 18. Age limit is 25 years old.
  • Separate application located at https://chafee.csac.ca.gov/. 2024- 2025 Application Deadline July 31, 2025
  • The 2025-2026 Chafee Grant Application will open on October 1, 2024.

Scholarships

  • Money that doesn’t have to be repaid. May come from a certain foundation, or a business through external applications.
  • WCC offers one application to apply for several scholarship opportunities
  • Eligibility
    • Have FAFSA complete and meet most basic FA criteria
    • Provide a personal statement
    • Financial need is a factor for some but not all scholarships
  • Attend scholarship workshops (future dates pending) and contact your financial aid office for support

Federal Work Study Working on Campus

  • WCC Financial Aid page - Federal Work Study
    • Part-time jobs for student enrolled at least in 6 units. Pay is minimum wage for all new FWS students. Fall 24 pay $16 per hour

      • Valid FAFSA (Dream Act not accepted)
