Example Case Study - EcoFuture (2025 Semester 1)

EcoFuture is a Sydney-based non-profit organization dedicated to promoting sustainable living and environmental conservation. The organization focuses on three main areas: reducing plastic waste, promoting renewable energy, and supporting urban green spaces. EcoFuture aims to expand its impact by launching a new initiative called "Green Sydney," which will focus on reducing plastic waste in the city. EcoFuture wants to understand the market size for its new “Green Sydney” initiative which aims to reduce plastic waste by 50% in Sydney over the next five years. The organization plans to achieve this through a combination of public awareness campaigns, partnerships with local businesses, and the distribution of eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastics.

Q1: Calculate the market size for EcoFuture's "Green Sydney" initiative in terms of the amount of single-use plastic waste (in tonnes) that needs to be reduced annually to achieve the 50% target reduction.

Q2: What strategies would you recommend to achieve the goal of reducing plastic waste by 50%?

Q3: How would you measure the impact of the Green Sydney initiative on plastic waste reduction?
