HOW TO PLAN

“I don’t know which grants our school will qualify for or how much funding we will receive! How do I plan without this information?”

  • Schools SHOULD NOT include federal grants as part of budget
  • Schools SHOULD analyze data, determine needs in all areas, and create strategies to address the needs

  • Currently, schools will not know which grants they qualify for or how much they may receive.
  • So, where SHOULD schools start the planning process?

NEEDS ASSESSMENT�WHY DO IT? WHAT IS IT?

Why do a needs assessment?

  • ESEA requires schools to complete a needs assessment for Title I, Title II, and Title IV
  • An effective needs assessment helps stakeholders and system leaders understand how the pieces of a complex educational system interact.
  • The goal of a needs assessment is to help educators identify, understand, and prioritize the needs that districts and schools must address to improve performance.

What is it?

  • Needs assessment is, first and foremost, a process – a process that can help educators at all levels successfully identify, understand, and better address educational challenges.
  • Generally defined as a systematic examination of the gap that exists between current state and desired state of an organization and the factors that can be attributed to this gap.

  • Best practice: Internal and external meetings
    • External meeting is required – monitoring team will look for documentation for this meeting
  • Remember to file the following evidence as documentation:
