Facility Committee

• Tasked with maintaining strategic plan and recommendations for capital improvement of district buildings and facilities, with a focus on fiscal responsibility and transparency.
• Meetings occur on a quarterly basis and are open to the public.
• Check website for details about the next meeting.

Committee Considerations

• Current Capital Needs
• Need to address deferred maintenance on existing facilities (roofs & systems)
• Capacity constraints
• Current Operations Challenges
• Cost to operate existing facilities (outdated systems and layouts)
• Capacity challenges – classroom use
• Current Administration Building faces many of the same maintenance and operations challenges
• OFCC renovation requirements
• Functionality – modern layouts and educational needs

Committee Determinations

• Cost of ongoing capital improvements continues to increase for existing facilities.
• Chapman, Muraski, Surrarrer, Whitney, and Zellers/BOE built more than 50 years ago.
• Cost of updating older buildings to current code and requirements is approaching the cost of new facilities.

• Demographic study estimates increase in district enrollment.

​

• Committee supports a building project to replace the elementary buildings.

​

Facility Committee’s Recommendation to the Strongsville School Board

Pursue capital improvement projects

to replace the roofs

at the Chapman and Whitney Elementary Buildings

​

Due to the present condition of the current SAO (Strongsville Administrative Offices)

building there is a need to explore an alternative location.
