ANIMAL TISSUE

Animal tissues are broadly classified into

  1. Epithelial tissue
  2. Connective tissue
  3. Muscular tissue
  4. Nervous tissue

ANIMAL TISSUE

  1. Epithelial tissue
  2. This tissue forms the outer covering of the

organ or body

  • It line mouth cavity blood vessels and kidney tubules
  • They are tightly packed with less amount of inter cellular materials
  • Epithelium is separated from underlying tissue by fibrous basement membrane.
  • There are different types of epithelium depending on the shape of cells and location
  • Simple squamous epithelium
  • Squamous epithelium
  • Cuboidal epithelium
  • Columnar epithelium
  • Stratified squamous epithelium

ANIMAL TISSUE

Squamous epithelium

Made up of single layer of flat, thin cells. it is delicate.

It form lining of alveoli and blood vessels, oesophagus and oral cavity

Function: protection, Exchange /transport of materials

5 of 21

ANIMAL TISSUE

Cuboidal epithelium

Cube like cells,

Forms lining of kidney tubule and salivary gland

Function: Mechanical support,Absorption,secretion

6 of 21

ANIMAL TISSUE

Columnar epithelium

Long pillar like cells, may possess cilia

Found in respiratory tract,small intestine

Function: Secretion

ANIMAL TISSUE

Columnar epithelium

Long pillar like cells, may possess cilia

Found in respiratory tract,small intestine

Function: Secretion

ANIMAL TISSUE

Stratified squamous epithelium

Made of several layer of cells

Located on outer side of skin

Function: Protection.Preventing wear and tear

ANIMAL TISSUE

Glandular Epithelium:

Modification of epithelial cells

Forms unicellular or multicellular glands

ANIMAL TISSUE

Connective tissue-types

  1. Areolar tissue- Beneath the epithelium
  2. Adipose tissue- Store fat
  3. White fibrous tissue- Join bones of skull
  4. Tendon - connects muscle with bone
  5. Ligaments Connects Bones at joints
  6. Cartilage – Support, Makes movements easy
  7. Bones – Support, protect, movements
  8. Blood - Transport of food, gases, hormones etc

ANIMAL TISSUE

Areolar tissue

Areolar tissue found beneath the skin and provide support frame work for epithelium

contain mast cell, fibroblast cell, collagen and elastin fibres

Function: protection( defence),support etc

ANIMAL TISSUE

Adipose tissue

Adipose tissue found beneath the skin, heart kidney and around eye ball Function: store fat

13 of 21

ANIMAL TISSUE

It is a dense regular connective tissue

Function: Connect muscles with the bones

Tendon

ANIMAL TISSUE

Cartilage

Found in the tip of nose, ear , end of bones etc. Solid and pliable

Consists of special cells called chondrocytes embedded in the a matrix formed of chondrin.

Function: 1.Keeps the passages open and distended.

2.Reduce the friction at joints

ANIMAL TISSUE

Bones

Hard connective tissue.

Contain special cells called osteocytes. They secrete a substane called ostein which make it hard.cells and matrix have specific arragement called haversian systyem.

Function: Protection,support,movements,production of blood cells
