Principal’s Note
As we move into May, it’s hard to believe how quickly the spring season is flying by. This is always a busy and exciting time in our school as we celebrate student growth and look ahead to the final stretch of the year.
I would like to extend a big congratulations to all of our badminton players on a fantastic season as it wraps up this month. Our students represented our school with great effort, sportsmanship, and pride. A sincere thank you goes out to Mrs. Sim, Mrs. Turnbull, and Mr. Graves for their time, energy, and commitment to coaching—our programs simply wouldn’t be possible without folks who are willing to go above and beyond.
As badminton comes to a close, we are already looking ahead to track and field, our final major extracurricular activity of the year. It’s always exciting to see so many students get involved, challenge themselves, and enjoy being active outdoors.
With the changing season and warmer weather, this is also a good time to remind families to ensure students come to school prepared for the conditions. Please help your child remember to bring a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle each day so they can stay comfortable and hydrated while learning and playing outside.
We are also very much looking forward to our Celebration of Learning later this month (May 7). This is a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase the independent projects they have been working so hard on. It’s always a highlight of the spring, and we hope to see many of you there to celebrate the creativity, curiosity, and accomplishments of our students.

We are grateful to the Haynes Community Society and Elite Treasure Chest Thrift Store for their financial support which will pay for busing for our Grade 6 students to attend Outdoor Camp in Sundre in May!
Junior High Final Exams
On the afternoons of the June 16, 19, 22 and 23 final exams, students may leave the school after the exam as long as they have permission in place. Parent Permission forms will be available in the Student Fees area of your Parent Portal. We will communicate with parents once the forms are live. Students who remain at the school will be supervised in a study hall.

Upcoming Donation Days:
Need to clear out your recyclable bottles and cans?
Our school recycles empty bottles and juice boxes. They are collected on a regular schedule throughout the year and provide funds to be used for special programs (like Alberta Musical Theatre Company, who will be performing Pinocchio in February!) and resources that support student learning at Clive School.
If you would like to donate your empty bottles, simply drop them off outside by the main school doors on the morning of one of the dates posted here. Your donations must be bagged. If your donation contains any liquor containers, please use a dark bag, labelled CLIVE SCHOOL RECYCLING.

Absent or late students:
Automated phone calls go out at approximately 9 am (for morning classes) and 1:20 pm (for afternoon classes) on all student absences, when we don’t know the reason for the absence.
Parents: please remember to call or email the school if your child is going to be absent or arrive late for morning and/or afternoon classes.
Late students must check in at the office so that their attendance can be updated.
School Volunteer Information
School Volunteers Package:
Please complete the Volunteer Application form (Form 490-1) and the Criminal Record Declaration form (Form 490-2) and return these to the school, along with your Vulnerable Sector check (if applicable). Volunteer Application forms are required each year that you volunteer at the school.
If we do not have a Vulnerable sector check on file for you at the school (these are valid for 3 years from date of issue), present Form 490-3 (signed by the principal; contact the school office) to your local police agency so that they can complete a Vulnerable Sector check for you at no cost to you.
Volunteer Drivers:
Complete the Volunteer Driver Authorization form (Form 565-1) and return it to the school office. As well, a copy of insurance showing $2 million liability is required. You can have your insurance company send that directly to the school office by fax or email.

Student Medical Considerations
Parents, if there are any medical concerns that emerge throughout the school year, please contact the school office to get that information updated right away. Please be sure to discuss any medical concerns with your child’s teacher.

School Exterior
Doors are Locked
In the interest of safety and security, our exterior doors are locked during the day.
Access can be granted if you ring the doorbell outside our main doors.
The doorbell sounds throughout the school hallways. Please help us avoid excess doorbell interruptions throughout the day by ensuring that your child arrives at school on time at the beginning of the day and (for junior high students) after lunch recess. Of course, students arriving late due to appointments and such would be expected to ring the bell upon their arrival.
