We are thankful for all parents

Giving guidance, strong support;

Mary, Joseph trained young Jesus

In tradit’nal Jewish thought;

Following Mosaic precept,

They preserved what they’d been taught.

So they came to name their baby

After seven days had past;

In this ancient Jewish custom

Jesus’ human-ness was cast;

But he showed love more than human,

Spoken as he breathed his last.

We now honour this man Jesus;

Wisdom teacher, Jewish sage;

Nurtured by his own tradition,

Strict religion of his age;

Yet his story, all inclusive,

Tells of love on every page.
