Open House-1st Period
Algebra 2: Functions and Equations
Introducing the Teacher and the Class
My name is Mr. S. Malouf and I am pleased to be your child Algebra 2 teacher this year. My classroom is F-24. Besides Algebra 2, I teach Geometry. I teach two classes in the GTA Department; Algebra 2 and Geometry.
Students take Algebra 2 class as Juniors after taking Geometry. After Algebra 2, students can take pre-calculus.
In Algebra 2, we use the “Initiative Math” Curriculum. Here is the link to this curriculum: https://im.kendallhunt.com/HS/students/2/index.html
I am available to help the students before school at 7:30 am to 8:00 am, brunch, lunch, and during Tutorial time at the beginning of 6th and 7th period.
Students can also go the “DEN: to get additional help and support. About the Den:
The Den is an after school collaborative tutoring center and homework lounge for students after school on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. We provide snacks and beverages while students work in study groups and get help from teachers and tutors. The Den is a voluntary resource for students.
Best way to contact me is by email at smalouf@seq.org
In the following slides, you will find google slides created by my 1st period Algebra 2 students. These slides are a “show and tell” that describes the students reflections and experiences in this course. Please enjoy

My Personal Challenge
Overview of What I Have Learnt
What I am Proud To Have Accomplished
Edmundo Martinez - 11th grade - Algebra II
I like that in this class everybody has an opportunity to succeed. We all can participate in the class to better our understanding of the math. Something I found challenging in this class was the lesson about “e.” At first it was hard to understand but then I learned what it meant and how it was used. Sometimes it can still be a little confusing and frustrating to work with equations involving ”e.” However, because of my classmates help and Mr. Malouf’s help I was able to understand the material.

Mr. Malouf and the class have help me overcome my fear of presenting in front of class. Overall, everyone in this classroom has a their own sense of style but we all fit nicely together.
Quadratic Function:
f(x) = ax^2 + bx + c

Over the course of this year, I have been able to expand my math knowledge further then needed. I have had the support of Mr. Malouf and have been encouraged to work hard, as questions and to not be scared to make mistakes. All in the course of a couple months. I haven’t felt so intrigued by a math class in a while and am glad and thankful for a year of expansion.
Logarithm:
Log (base) total = exponent
Vicky Avalos - 11th Grader in Algebra 2
One thing I enjoyed learning in this class was the exponential function. One thing I’ve always kept in mind when solving these problem the answer will always be a positive number, raising it to an exponent will yield it to a positive number. On a Graph the function will show as a curve upwards.

Kaitlyn Jackson (10th Grade): Algebra II
I love this class’s no-pressure feel. I am learning a lot and the class is super easy going. A great stressless way to start the day.
The teacher is super helpful and encourages you to ask questions when stuck. He cares a lot about us and how we are doing.
In this class we have learned about exponents, exponential functions, logarithms, and using the number e in equations.
What I'm proud of
I am proud of being able to maintain a solid grade in this class and doing most of the homework on time
The part about this class that I enjoy most is that it is very low stress class which is great for my first period
I have learned many different algebra concepts this year. I think my favorite concept is e because it is a much easier way of doing and understanding interest equations
What I enjoy most
Things I learned
e = 2.71828182846

I Enjoy this class the people are nice, the teacher (Mr Malouf) gets you excited for the Curriculum and Guides you along the way, while making it fun, easy to understand, and challenging. Overall it just a amazing class and one where the lessons and the experiences will stick with me for a long time.
The Algebra in Algebra II :
Challenges: One personal challenge in Algebra was getting a grasp of the concept e, But asking for help and using notes help me Understand e More

This class can be challenging at times but sometimes is easy.
I enjoy this class when I understand it.
A lesson i found interesting this quarter was ¨Interpreting and writing Logarithmic Equations¨. The expression log10 1000 =3 can be read as: The log, base 10, of 1000 is. It can be interpreted to and exponent like 10 to the third equals to 1000.

What have you have problems with in algebra?
Somethings i have found changellenging in this class is the test in the class because even tho we had enough practice before i take the test but during the test i tend to forget a lot.
What do you like about algebra 2?
I like how it challenges me to do better in every new lesson and most of the time the work we do one lesson i get to use it in another lesson.
