WHAT is PSEO?

Post Secondary Enrollment Option

*the opportunity for high school students to take college courses free of charge

*opportunity to start a college transcript

3 of 21

Some Advantages...

  • Tuition, fees, textbooks are FREE!
  • You’re still eligible (and encouraged!) to participate in CPHS activities
  • Experience college courses
  • Increased independence/freedom
  • Classes count as “honors” (weighted)
  • Earn college credit (saving you time and money later)
    • NOTE: Credits do not always transfer perfectly. The more you know about your future plans and the more research you do, the more useful your PSEO credits will be…

Things to keep in mind…

  • Increased Responsibility
    • Parents/Counselor can not see your progress.
    • MUST keep us updated!
    • It’s your job to stay up to date on CPHS happenings
  • Works best to have your own transportation
  • College Professors treat you as college students
  • This is the start of your college GPA and college transcript.
  • Withdrawals “W” or low grades can put you on academic probation/suspension that can carry over to other colleges
  • Online classes can be convenient, but are a jump from HS.

AP/IB vs PSEO

Should I do AP/IB classes at CPHS? OR should I do PSEO?

  • With careful planning, you could do part-time PSEO along with some AP/IB courses and/or STEP
  • You would NOT be able to do PSEO and the full IB diploma program.

AP/IB

  • More “full” experience at the high school
  • Teacher support at the high school for your high school classes
  • Must earn a certain score on the AP or IB exam to get college credit

PSEO

  • More typical college, lecture style class
  • Earns college credit by passing the course
  • Online options
