Science in the Community - SciCom A & B: introduces students to relevant topics in chemistry, physics, and earth sciences, providing students with a foundation of scientific principles, meaningful applications, and 21st century skills. SciCom includes less math than chemistry or physics, and it focuses on societal issues impacting students’ lives with a focus on problem solving of personal, local and global issues. SciCom is a pre college course intended for students NOT interested in pursuing a career in a scientific or healthcare field.

Global Scholar Program & STEM

WHAT IS STEM?

STEM is an approach to learning and development that integrates the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. STEM education

creates critical thinkers, increases science literacy, and enables the next generation of innovators through hands-on learning projects that requires

problem-solving skills.

Requirements:

  • 3.2 GPA in STEM classes
  • 3+ Credits in Science
  • 3 Credits in Mathematics
  • 1+ Credit of Engineering or Technology
  • 2.5+ credits in courses with a strong STEM emphasis from at least two different curricular areas.
  • Students need the equivalent of 4 years participation in any of the following: HOSA, Science Olympiad, VEX Robotics, National Ocean Science Bowl, Skills USA or other STEM-related activity (approved)
  • Complete a Capstone Project with STEM emphasis, such as: Senior Internship (w/STEM focus), Service Project (ie: Eagle Scout, w/STEM focus), other projects as approved by STEM staff

Global Education Achievement Certificate- Global Scholar Program...is a recognition program that is optional for students to work on, if they plan to complete 4 years of the same World Language.

Requirements:

  • Classwork: 4 yrs same World Language + 4 credits in courses with strong global focus.
  • Books/Art/Music: read (4) books with globals perspective; view (4) films/art exhibits with global perspective
  • Cultural Experiences: have (4) cultural experiences
  • Service Project: should serve a global need, with at least 20 hours involved

CVTC DUAL CREDIT:

ADVANCED STANDING CREDIT

Advanced Standing agreements allow students to request credit for certain courses that have an articulation agreement established. High School courses must have an 80% competency match and students must receive a "B" or better in order to receive credit. Students receive high school credit immediately after course completion, but only receive college credit upon admission. Credits do NOT transfer out of the WTCS!

This will require careful planning of science and healthcare pathway courses, prior to JUNIOR YEAR to be eligible to apply for this academy, but there are many benefits to students/families.

PRE-NURSING/HEALTHCARE ACADEMY!

For incoming 12th graders who are

interested in hands on, interactive labs on equipment used by local employers such as Nestle, Walmart, Menards Distribution Center, Midwest Manufacturing, JD Manufacturing, Ashley Furniture, Gold N' Plump, and Bush Brothers. Faculty can connect students with local employers looking to hire skilled workers. Students will be introduced to industrial electricity utilizing both classroom and lab experiences, including electrical systems and controls. Students will also learn concepts of component selection, power transmission application, failure analysis, and predictive maintenance techniques in a hands on lab experience.

This will require careful planning for your SENIOR YEAR, but there are many benefits to students/families.

2 of these courses are offered this summer in Eau Claire, if you are unsure you can commit to this full academy in the Fall!

  • If accepted, you may take 3.0 credits of 7.0; so prioritize courses based on acceptance.

  • If you are in internship, you will not be approved for a TA!

  2. Select Next Year/Future Courses
  3. Select “REQUIRED” tab
  4. Search courses by COURSE NUMBER
  5. Once you find your course number, select it so it’s highlighted and click “ADD” (it should move over to the right column for selections)
  6. Continue to select all 14 REQUIRED choices. Remember *year-long courses must have TWO course numbers selected/added
  7. After all required courses are selected, confirm you have entered 7.0 credits
  8. Next, select “Electives” Tab, and select the 4 alternates, by course number in the same way.
  9. Once complete, have an adult look it over before you log out. COURSE CHOICES WILL SAVE AUTOMATICALLY when you log out.
