What does this look like in a digital world?

The Manaiakalani Pedagogy:

First and foremost these 3 simple words, Learn Create Share or Ako, Hanga, Tohatoha, provide a shared pedagogy across our schools

We have a common learning language for all our schools, which allows for the individual differences of each school to contextualise around our different age levels, values, special character, localised curriculum etc etc

If our language was more specific it would be impossible to be inclusive.

Our eclectic mix includes:

State primary schools

State colleges

Kura kaupapa, including kohanga and wharekura

NZs largest Special School

Catholic Schools

Mostly Decile 1a, but also a Decile 9

Schools with 100 kids and schools with 600+ kids

Teachers in their early 20s (who studied the War in Vietnam protesting as history) and teachers in their 70s (who participated in the Vietnam War as a soldier, supporter or protester)

Effective practice in a digital learning environment is familiar- we recognise it for what it is when we see it. We are familiar with it from the past (see NZC etc). There are people in this room who have had effective practice from way back...
We amplify it using the pedagogy and kaupapa of TMP eg Sharing through our connected networks
We turbocharge it using using digital technologies to enable a quality of teaching learning experiences that were either NOT possible before OR were not equitable before technology .....(eg that trip to Waitangi/ Te Papa/ Paris that some kids got to go on but a whole lot missed out on. Now thanks to VR, Google Earth, Expeditions, interactive software, Virtual Learning etc etc EVERY child can have this)

Toolkits provide an opportunity for us to focus in short bursts on tools and apps which teachers and learners find useful.
Manaiakalani facilitators develop the Toolkit programme, deliver content and where possible recognise and support expertise in cluster teachers to also deliver sessions.
Toolkits are programmed throughout the year at regular intervals on the cluster calendar. Depending on geography and cluster size, one of these options is effective:

The Manaiakalani programme delivery is heavily weighted to supporting pedagogy and effective teaching practice. With technology changing rapidly and updates to our most commonly used tools coming out almost weekly, it is important that we provide support for our teachers to acquire and maintain digital fluency.
