About the teacher
My name is Mr. Bakes
I am in my 6th year of teaching special education at CRGE.
My classroom thrives on structure, routines, and a skilled team of educators working as one to meet the needs of our students.
My classroom incorporates a wide variety of learning methods for a wide variety of learners. All of my students have unique needs and learning styles, and we work to meet kids where they are at.
Our classroom is guided by the philosophy of “Students do well if they can, and if they cannot, it is because of a lagging skill.”
In our classroom the rules look different from other classrooms.
However safety is always our main concern
In my classroom we agree to:

Class agreements
In my classroom we spend time dedicated to social emotional learning daily. This includes things like role play, practicing skills around campus, and cartooning to help students manage their emotions, understand social expectations and know how to behave in different situations.
SEL Learning
ELA learning
My classroom has a wide variety of learners with wide variety of skill levels. Students ELA instruction in my room is directly connected to IEP goals.
Students are learning letter sounds, some students are working on cvc words and sight words. Others have learned to read and are working through our PCI sight word curriculum or the News2You weekly readers.
Math Learning
Math learning is again centered around each student's unique needs and skill level. We learn math skills through visuals, games, hands on activities, movement activities, and worksheets.
On a daily basis students are working on anything from counting and 1:1 correspondence, to multi-digit subtraction and multiplication and division.
Science/Social Studies Learning
My classroom’s primary focus in on IEP goals, which do not pertain to social studies or science. Please see your child’s general education teacher’s slides for information on this section.
Field trips and Fun
My classroom has yet to take a field trip but we hope to one day.
For fun my students have a play area in the back of my room filled with a variety of toys. They also love to play with kinetic sand, putty, and playdough. My older students often like to play Uno together or make movies with their IPads.
