Jesus Heals a Man
LESSON TITLE
1 John 4:19, Matthew 1-12
WHERE TO FIND IT
Tip
Depending on your group, you may want to create mazes ahead of time. Take a look at the lesson ahead of time to see what works best for your group.
Note
There will be some changes coming to KC Anywhere soon. Keep an eye out for updates.
Slide 1
Note: Give kids some free play time at the beginning. You could have some Kids Club music on in the background. Check out http://crossroadskidsclub.net/music/ for plenty of music!
Slide 2
Ask: Have you ever had to find your way through a maze before?
Say: We’re going to start today by playing a game with some mazes. First, we’re going to have to make some dots in rows. You can do the same number of rows and columns you see on the screen or make it easier with less dots or harder with more.
Say: On your sheet of paper, make the dots look like what you see on the screen.
Do: You may need to help kids with this. If you’d like to skip this step, you could create the dot grid in advance.
Slide 3
Say: Now, connect the dots to create a maze. You could do it like the picture on the screen or create your own path.
Say: Great! Now, you each have a maze. You need a partner now. Your partner will close their eyes. Then, you have to give them instructions, without touching them, to get them from the beginning to the end. Then, switch places with the other partner’s maze.
Ask:
Slide 4
Ask: Have you ever needed help before? When? (Let kids answer)
Say: We all need help sometimes. The guy we’re talking about definitely needed help. This guy couldn’t walk. Today, we have wheelchairs and other things to help people who can’t walk. Back then, he just had had to sit on a mat all day. We don’t know his name, so let’s just call him Matt. Matt really wanted to see Jesus, but he couldn’t. One day his friends decided to help. Let’s watch a video to see how Matt’s friends helped him.
Do: Play video.
Slide 5
Ask: So, what did Matt’s friends do to help him?
Say: Right, they helped him get to see Jesus.
Ask: Did Jesus help?
Say: Yeah, of course! But, he didn’t ONLY help in the way Matt expected. First, Jesus said “Friend, your sins are forgiven.” Woah! Jesus knew it was more important to heal Matt’s sins BEFORE healing his legs.
Slide 6
Say: Jesus did end up healing Matt’s legs, too. He was able to get up and walk home!
Say: This is a pretty amazing story. But, the coolest part of this story is that it’s not just about Matt...it’s about us, too! When we’re feeling sad, mad, scared, lonely or anything else, Jesus can heal us, too.
Say: Think of something you need help with now. Go ahead and close your eyes and talk to Jesus about it. You don’t have to say anything fancy. Just tell him what’s wrong and ask for help.
Ask: Does anyone know why Jesus helps us?
Slide 7
Say: Yeah, it’s because he loves us. There’s a verse in the Bible that tells us more about what is (and what it isn’t!). Let’s take a look.
1 Corinthians 13:4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
Slide 8
Ask:
Slide 9
Say: We all need help from Jesus. He can heal us when we need help. I’m going to give you each a sheet of paper. Draw a hospital on your paper. It could look like the one on the screen or you can make it look different. Then, think about what things you need help with. Draw or write these in the windows of your drawing.
Say: You can use this picture as a prayer to God to help you.
