polity.

Sovereign: In the context of this chapter it refers to an independent people.

Trafficking: The practice of the illegal buying and selling of different commodities across national borders.

Tyranny: The cruel and unjust use of power or authority

Purposes of our Constitution

  1. To define the fundamental nature of our society
  2. To shape the type of country’s government or the political system
  3. To lay out certain guidelines to the guide the Government
  4. To safeguard the fundamental rights of the citizens

  1. A Country is usually made up of different communities with different beliefs and customs. A Constitution provides a set of rules and principles that all citizens can agree upon.

2. A Constitution clearly defines the type of government suitable to the country among several categories like monarchy, dictatorship, presidentship or parliamentary form of government.

3. Our constitution has Directive Principles of State Policy that direct the government what may be followed.

4. Our Constitution ensures that a dominant group does not exercise its authority against the less privileged group or the minorities. That means it safeguards the fundamental rights of the citizens.

5. A Good Constitution does not allow any whims and fancies to change its basic structure and helps to protect us against certain decisions that we might take that could have adverse effect.
