Rotarians, like you, to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

I believe the two most important words to remember are “enable Rotarians”. The Foundation is here to support the work that each of you are doing locally in district as well as around the world. In to do that, we raise funds for the initiatives that are important to you and your community.

When I talk to groups like yours I do so to encourage giving and knowledge of The Rotary Foundation. I’d like to acknowledge that this is a difficult time for many and that I am here today more so to inform you that The Rotary Foundation is here to help you in your goals to make an impact in your community.

To that end, The Rotary Foundation’s mission is to help Rotarians, like you, to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace by improving health, providing quality education, improving the environment, and alleviating poverty.

I believe the two most important words to remember are “help Rotarians”. The Foundation is here to support the work that each of you are doing locally in district 6630 as well as around the world. In order to do that, we raise funds for the initiatives that are important to you and your community.

These projects we’ve just discussed are possible because Rotarians supported the Foundation and participated in Foundation grants.

Several years ago, we started a fundraising initiative for the Annual Fund called Every Rotarian, Every Year. The goal of Every Rotarian, Every Year is to encourage support of the Annual Fund and increase Rotarian engagement with the Foundation.

How many of you have heard of Every Rotarian, Every Year?

This effort is based on the idea that if every Rotarian gave at least $25 every year to the Annual Fund, the possibilities of what the Foundation could accomplish would multiply.

In 2018-19, we accomplished a lot:

Rotarians gave a little over $126 million to the Annual Fund
The Foundation awarded more than 1,400 global grants

With nearly a third of Rotarians making a gift to the annual fund and becoming EREY eligible worldwide, we’ve achieved a lot and improved the lives of many. Can you imagine how many more lives could be changed through grant projects if we encourage even more Rotarians to contribute at least $25 to the Annual Fund every year?

This chart shows the number of individuals giving at different amounts to the Annual Fund and how much AF dollars were generated by donors at each giving level over the past 6 fiscal years. The "Grand Total" line does not match with the totals we are familiar with because this chart does not include giving by Rotary Clubs or other Rotary entities. Giving by donors in the $1,000-$2,500 range represents by far the largest proportional amount of Annual Fund giving. Many of these are Paul Harris Society members, but the number of donors who give $1,000+ in a given year is higher than the number of Paul Harris Society members (this is not a problem, ALL donors giving at this level are vital and appreciated, whether they wish to be PHS members or not). Over 30% of Annual Fund contributions comes from this group. Note how the number of donors in this category has increased nicely over time.

Unfortunately, the second most valuable group in terms of total giving to the Annual Fund is those giving between $100 and $250. This group represents 25% of total AF giving. Note that the number of donors in this category is shrinking, and was in fact lower in 2018-19 than at any time in the past 6 years, prompting refreshing of EREY messaging and emphasis of the importance of this level of giving to districts and clubs.

The Paul Harris Society aims to identify, engage, and recognize donors who have the ability and desire to make substantial annual gifts to help communities around the world.

The Paul Harris Society recognizes those generous donors who express their intent to give $1,000 each year to the Annual Fund, the PolioPlus Fund, or an approved Foundation grant.

Paul Harris Society membership has grown from about 10,600 in 84 countries since its launch in 2013-14 to more than 23,000 in 141 countries in 2018-19.

Additionally, contributions from the Paul Harris Society accounted for nearly 18 percent of Annual Fund contributions in 2018-19.

Society members’ consistent support is incredibly important to the district. It means that each year, the district can rely on gifts from these donors to fund meaningful district and global grant projects.

A simple way to meet that $1000 commitment is through Rotary Direct, our recurring giving program. For $85/month, you can join the Paul Harris Society and be a part of this important group.
