Faith & Christian Conduct

Our Catholic identity is part of daily school life, learning, service, prayer, and worship.

Students are expected to act with respect, kindness, honesty, responsibility, and reverence.

Families and school staff are expected to work courteously and cooperatively to support academic, moral, and behavioral expectations.

Concerns should be shared respectfully and addressed directly with the appropriate teacher or administrator.

Attendance & Being Ready to Learn

Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to student success.

Parents/guardians should notify the school when a student is absent and provide the required excuse.

Students are responsible for making up work missed during an absence.

Students absent from school may not participate in after-school sports or activities that day.

Students may not leave campus early without proper parent/guardian authorization and sign-out.

Accommodations for unexcused absences are not permitted - please refrain from requesting school work for vacations or trips. Assigned school work missed can be provided upon return to school. Students will not be penalized.

Academic Expectations

Come to class prepared, participate, and put forth your best effort.

Homework reinforces learning and helps build independent study habits.

Assignments should be complete, on time, neat, legible, and follow directions.

An absence does not excuse missed work; students should ask teachers for assignments when they return.

Cheating, copying, and plagiarism are not acceptable.

You are expected to use your planner daily

If you are absent you can make up an assignment for full credit - if your assignments is missing or late. You will receive partial credit or zero if never submitted. Do not ask for additional make up work or extra credit

Assessment, Grades & Progress

Assessment is ongoing and includes classroom and standardized measures of learning.

Progress reports and report cards communicate student growth and achievement.

Missing or incomplete work can affect grades.

Academic achievement, improvement, effort, and citizenship may be recognized through school awards.

Students and families should use academic information to set goals and seek support when needed.

Excessive absences and excessive tardies will result in disqualification from citizenship and Eagle Awards: 10+ unexcused Absences is excessive, 15+ unexcused tardies is excessive

Technology: Use It Responsibly

School technology and internet access are for educational purposes.

Students must use devices, accounts, and online resources responsibly and appropriately.

Do not post, send, or share content that is offensive, harassing, bullying, defamatory, or unsafe.

Respect privacy, passwords, school systems, and the work of others.

Electronic activity connected to school may be subject to school policies even beyond the school day.

Cell Phones & Smart Watches

Phones and smart watches must remain turned off and stored during the school day, including lunch.

Students may not call, text, message, play games, or use devices during class, recess, lunch, exams, drills, or field trips unless specifically authorized.

If a student needs to contact home, the school office is available.

Students may not photograph or record staff or other students at school.

Repeated misuse may result in the device being held by the office and parent contact.

Behavior: How Eagles Treat Others

Respect teachers, staff, classmates, school property, and yourself.

Arguing/talking back, disruptive behavior, roughhousing, fighting, stealing, graffiti, obscene gestures, and inappropriate language are not acceptable.

Students should move safely and quietly through hallways and follow staff directions.

Toys, toy weapons and other accessories should remain at home.

Behavior expectations apply during school and school-sponsored activities.

Bullying, Harassment & Threats

Bullying, harassment, hazing, intimidation, and cyberbullying are not tolerated.

Students should report concerning behavior to a teacher or the principal.

Threats of violence — including offhand comments or 'jokes' — are taken seriously and investigated.

Our responsibility is to protect the dignity, safety, and well-being of every member of our school community.

Discipline = Guidance & Growth

The handbook describes discipline as moral guidance, not simply punishment.

Consequences are based on the student’s age, development, circumstances, seriousness, and repeated behavior.

Responses may include discussion, parent conferences, loss of privileges, detention, behavior plans/contracts, suspension, or expulsion.

The goal is consistent, fair follow-through and helping students make better choices.

Dress & Uniform Code

Students are expected to arrive in the correct, complete uniform for the day.

Formal/Mass days require the designated dress uniform.

P.E. uniforms are worn on assigned P.E. days or when announced.

Uniform shirts/blouses should be tucked in; clothing should fit appropriately and follow school guidelines.

Hair, accessories, jewelry, shoes, and free-dress clothing must follow school expectations.

Uniform reminders or consequences may be issued when corrections are needed.

Dress Code: Grooming & Accessories

Simple, neat, uniform-appropriate, and ready for school

✓ ACCEPTABLE / EXPECTED

HAIR: Simple, natural-looking hairstyles; hair accessories should match the uniform.

BOYS’ HAIR: Above the ears, eyes, and collar; clean-shaven. Long hair must be groomed and neatly kept with a hair tie

JEWELRY: Girls may wear one pair of earrings and one finger ring. A necklace is acceptable, cross or acceptable symbols are acceptable

NAILS & MAKEUP: Natural appearance — no makeup or nail products. No make up is needed for school days

UNIFORM: Shirts/blouses tucked in on Mass days; skirts, jumpers, and shorts should meet the handbook length requirement.

HAIR: Dyed/highlighted hair, fad styles, spikes, or shaved-head styles prohibited by the handbook.

FACIAL HAIR: Mustaches, beards, or long sideburns.

MAKEUP & NAILS: Makeup, nail polish, fake nails, or gel nails.

JEWELRY: Hoop earrings, earrings for boys, excessive bracelets, anklets, fancy or expensive jewelry.

FIT/APPEARANCE: Oversized or baggy clothing; uniform bottoms worn improperly. Shorts and Skirt length above/at knee - Do not roll up skirts

Campus, Recess & Safety

SMG is a closed campus; visitors must check in through the school office.

Once students enter campus, they may not leave without authorization.

At recess and lunch, students should use assigned areas and school-approved equipment.

Students should eat in designated areas, clean up after themselves, and line up promptly when called.

School officials may respond to safety concerns, including reasonable searches when school rules or laws may have been violated.

Activities, Athletics & Field Trips

Field trips and co-curricular activities are privileges that extend classroom learning.

Participation may depend on satisfactory academics, conduct, and effort.

Students must follow school behavior expectations during athletics, field trips, extended care, and other school-sponsored events.

Proper permission and required documentation must be completed before participation.

Health & Medication

Families should keep emergency contact and health information current.

When a student becomes ill or is injured, the school will contact the parent/guardian or an authorized emergency contact.

Medication at school requires the appropriate authorization and must follow school procedures.

Students generally may not carry medication; specific exceptions require proper medical and parent authorization.
