Dear Gold Camp Elementary Community,

I can’t believe it is already November. The first quarter of the school just flew by. As we start into our next quarter, I wanted to thank you for your positive and productive partnership with your children’s teachers at Parent-Teacher Conferences. This was an opportunity to support your students and set them up for success for the rest of the school year.

We have a few events planned this month. First off, next week is our Book Fair, November 6-8th (7:30-3:30), Nov 9 (7:30-3:15) and Nov 10, (7:30-12:00) . Please be on the lookout for a Book Fair handout. The Book Fair will take place in our library and students will be coming to shop during the school day. Please feel free to check it out with your child after school.

On Friday November 10th, we will be holding a Veterans Day Assembly. We look forward to honoring the Veterans of our Gold Camp families and community. We invite you to attend our assembly on Friday, November 10, 2023. Doors will open at 2:05 and our assembly will start at 2:15.

Our 4th graders have been working hard in Music on their Musical. Please join us on Thursday November 16th for their performance of The Emperor’s New Clothes. The afternoon performance will take place approximately at 2:00 (sometimes we have to start a little earlier) and the evening performance will start at 6:30.

The Lost and Found items are piling up. To help get lost items back to students, please put your child’s name on the inside of their jacket or coats. Lots of lunch items are also showing up. If these are labeled then we can get them returned.

The School Accountability and Accreditation Committee meeting will be held on November 14th this month due to the Thanksgiving Break. Parents are welcome to attend. We meet at 11:30 in our library.

Our next PTO meeting will be November 8th at 1:45. The PTO is also sponsoring a Thankful for Teachers the week of November 13-17. Please see their newsletter for more information.

The Thanksgiving Break is the week of November 20-24th. Please enjoy time with your families!

Warmly,

Becki Royall

I wanted to take this opportunity to remind our families of the importance of safety during drop-off and pick-up. There has been an increase in parking in non-parking areas, drivers entering or going the wrong way, which disrupt the flow of traffic and increase unsafe traffic patterns in our school parking lot. I request your patience when picking up and dropping off your child. A few extra minutes of patience could mean the difference between a safe drop off and a tragedy happening. Also, the curbside lane (furthest to the right) is for active Drop-off/Pick-up only. Please review the following expectations for our parking lot:

PARKING LOT EXPECTATIONS:

1. Please do NOT leave your car unattended in the drop off or pick up zones. This causes congestion in the parking area and hinders a smooth flow for everyone’s convenience.

2. Remember the speed limit. The speed limit is 5 miles per hour when entering the parking lot. It is also 20 miles per hour when lights are flashing on the streets/avenues around the school when children are present. I realize that everyone has a place to go and is busy. However, the safety of your child(ren) and all child(ren) in general is our number 1 concern.

3. When dropping off or picking up your child(ren), use the drop off/pick up zone or the parking lot. If you need to get out of your car for any reason, the parking lot should be used. General rule: If you plan on taking longer than 30 seconds to drop your child(ren) off, you need to use the parking lot.

4. Child(ren) entering/exiting vehicles in the drop off/pick up zones. When dropping off or picking up your child(ren), they should always exit the passenger side of your vehicle onto the sidewalk.

5. The passing/flow lane should NEVER be used to pick up/drop off your child(ren). This leads to double parking and the students have to move between cars.

6. The crosswalks should always be used when walking to or from the parking lot or crossing the street. Cars should NEVER be parked or students picked up in these or any crosswalks.

Important Information About Immunization Exemptions

For any student who has a personal or religious exemption (non-medical exemption) on file, parents are required to sign a new exemption form annually, prior to the beginning of each school year. This may be done electronically through the Colorado Department of Public Health at www.colorado.gov/pacific/cdphe/vaccine-exemptions.

Incoming 6th graders 2023-24 School Year

Thank you for keeping your student home if they are sick. As the weather cools down, we are doing our best to keep everyone as healthy as possible. Please notify the office if your student tests positive for covid or RSV. Also, please remember that a student will need to be out a full 24 hours after vomiting, diarrhea, or fever of 100.4 or higher. Please refer to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's How Sick is Too Sick document for further information.
