Script: What makes iClicker so powerful is that it can be set up quickly and easily.

With iClicker, there’s no need to feed questions and answers into a separate system. Instead, iClicker floats on top of whatever presentation tools you’re already using.

Students can participate using the iClicker application on their mobile devices, laptops, or tablets, OR using the traditional iClicker remote. You have the flexibility to choose what will work best for your classroom and your students. iClicker gives each of your students a voice, from the noisiest extrovert to the brilliant introvert, taking students from passive observation to active learning.

iClicker use also encourages students to come to class using an optional GPS enabled Attendance module. You can set Attendance to auto-run on class days and your students can easily see their attendance record within the iClicker student app.

With iClicker Cloud, you’re able to provide and collect feedback instantly, then adjust your presentation accordingly. This is one of the aspects of iClicker that both instructors and students love-- being able to give and receive feedback about the pace of class, student understanding and student comprehension and other aspects of your class makes it easy for you to teach in a responsive, effective manner.

With the new iClicker Cloud Instructor app, you’re free to move around the classroom, starting and stopping polls using the app. You can also access the results of your polls, even while they are running, giving you a new way to observe how your students are learning. You can also grade poll results from the app, giving you another level of freedom in your classroom.

Script: Here’s what you’ll need as an Instructor to run iClicker Cloud in your class.

iClicker Cloud requires a computer, the iClicker Cloud desktop software, an instructor account, and we recommend having whatever computer you’re using to run iClicker Cloud hardwired to the internet. This is recommended but not required. If you’re hardwired into the campus internet, a blip in the campus wifi won’t knock you out of a session and you’ll lessen the load, however slightly, on your classroom’s wifi.

You have the option to use the iClicker Cloud Mobile app on your mobile device or tablet to control polling questions and your presentation. This allows you to walk around your classroom while you teach, rather than being tethered to the podium.

If you decide to allow students to use iClicker remotes to participate in your sessions, you’ll also need the iClicker Classic base hooked up to the computer you’re using to run iClicker Cloud. You’ll also have the option to use an iClicker instructor remote to control your presentation.

Regardless of which devices you allow students to use in class, all students must create an iClicker account to ensure that their grades appear in your iClicker gradebook. They can do this by downloading the mobile app via the App Store or Google Play, or by visiting the iClicker student website. Students should not create more than one account–if they have an existing account they should use it and your course to it.

�Upon creating an account, students receive a 2 week free-trial period with the student app.

Students who will be using iClicker on a mobile device, laptop, or tablet will need to either purchase a student app subscription or obtain an access code after their 2-week trial expires. Be sure to emphasize to your students that they need to arrange their subscription to iClicker in that time period so their access is not disrupted.��Again, please note that if students already have an iClicker account they should use it, and simply add your course in their account.

After this session, I can provide you with more detailed instructions and resources to share with your students regarding the registration process–it differs slightly depending on whether or not you will be integrating your iClicker Cloud course with your LMS.

Script: iClicker Cloud and iClicker Classic share many similarities, though they are distinct in their own right. This chart lays out the difference between these two polling systems.

With iClicker Classic, students vote primarily using iClicker remotes, while our iClicker Cloud students rely on their smartphones, tablets and laptops. However, we like to give you a lot of flexibility here. If you want to allow students to use iClicker remotes in your Cloud class, all you need to do is plug in the iClicker base.

Internet requirements is an area we want to pay special attention to. Wifi is one of the more precious commodities on college campuses these days, and we created iClicker Cloud with that in mind. However, we know that many of the classrooms you teach in were built before wifi was considered a necessity and sometimes the construction of a building or the placement of a classroom makes it so the wifi is weak or nonexistent. As a result, it’s always a good idea to check your classroom and make sure the wifi is robust. If you find yourself in one of those classrooms, iClicker Classic with iClicker remotes only might be the solution you need.

For this reason, iClicker Classic relies on local data storage, which iClicker Cloud keeps its data in, you guessed it, the cloud. Using cloud storage gives instructors the ability to use iClicker Cloud as they move around campus. It also gives instructors access to their iClicker Cloud gradebook data by simply visiting iClicker.com and logging in as an instructor.

Attendance is the newest feature we’ve added to iClicker Cloud. With Attendance, you can automate the roll taking process in your class. You have the option of either having students marked as in attendance when they log into iClicker at the start of class, or you can require geolocation for extra assurance that your students are not checking in anywhere but your classroom.

With all of our iClicker solutions, you can always ask multiple choice questions. If your students have the iClicker2 remote, you can ask very short answer and numeric questions as well.

iClicker Cloud allows instructors the widest variety of question types. You can ask multiple choice questions, questions that take a numeric response, and questions that allow your students to write a short response up to 140 characters. You can also ask your students a targeted question. With this kind of question, you show your students a picture and they touch the picture to indicated the correct answer. I’ll demonstrate all of these question types during our time together.
