Program Development

1. Welcome

We have a new class ahead, a special moment to share, learn, and enjoy together. Welcome all the children with a smile, joyfully and enthusiastically, creating from the start a warm and joyful atmosphere that makes them feel comfortable and happy to participate.

Present the teachers and collaborators who will be accompanying today’s class to the children, briefly explaining their role and allowing them to identify them and feel comfortable with them. This helps strengthen the bond between teachers and students, generating a closer and more familiar atmosphere.

Since we have already shared several classes together, it is good and meaningful to mention some students by name during the welcome, recognizing their presence and participation. This helps create a closer atmosphere, where children feel valued and important within the group.

It is also important to give a special greeting to the children attending for the first time, making them feel welcome, included, and part of the group from the very first moment, thus fostering integration and friendship among all.

But let’s continue with Zacchaeus’s story.

Zacchaeus had heard about Jesus and realized that his life was not right. He felt the longing to live a better life. He had heard the teachings of John the Baptist and felt the desire to repent of his evil ways, because he knew his actions were not right.

The words he heard always resonated in his mind, and he was not happy with his actions.

And you? Surely you have also heard about Jesus.

If you have read the Bible, you will also know that sin separates us from God and does not please Him.

It is our sins that have separated us from God.

But the Bible also says that God forgives us.

In 1 John 1:9 it says: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (KJV)

How wonderful! There is hope for us.

Zacchaeus heard that Jesus would pass by there and decided to go see Him.

4. Teaching the Bible Text

Today’s text is: “But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:15 (KJV)

Prepare the visual in a creative and attractive way to facilitate the students’ learning, using colors, drawings, and eye-catching elements that capture their attention and help in understanding the biblical message.

As a suggestion, large hearts can be made on cardboard or poster paper, writing the text inside them and dividing it into parts to make it easier to learn:

• “But speaking the truth in love,”

• “may grow up into him in all things,”

• “which is the head,”

• “even Christ.”

• “Ephesians 4:15”

Each part can be presented gradually, repeating it several times with the children until they memorize it. Simple gestures or movements can also be used to accompany each phrase and reinforce the learning.

Remember that this moment is very important, as we are imprinting God’s Word on the children’s hearts, helping them understand its meaning and apply it in their daily lives.

5. Prayer Moment

The time has come to speak with God, a very special space dedicated to teaching children to have sincere and constant communion with the heavenly Father. In this time we seek for the children to understand that they can approach God with confidence, just as to a close friend who always listens and cares.

Today, the children will have the opportunity to learn to present their requests to the Lord through prayer, recognizing that God is interested in every aspect of their lives and also in the people they love.

As a suggestion, you can bring drawings or images of people and situations for which we can pray: father, mother, siblings, home, animals, grandparents, the sick, studies, among others. Then, allow the children to freely choose the options they wish to present in prayer and place them on drawn hands representing “praying hands,” as a symbol of giving to God.

When praying, let the children repeat the prayer in a simple, guided, and measured way, so they can learn little by little how to speak with God. It is important to foster an atmosphere of respect, calm, and trust, helping the children gradually develop the habit of prayer in their daily lives. We can sing the prayer song.

ACTIVITIES

6. Activities

The activity time is meant to reinforce the teaching received, not to entertain or teach content unrelated to the children. We must find the appropriate activity that helps us achieve this objective. Below are some suggestions.

Group Activity

Truth Balloon

This activity aims to reinforce in children the importance of telling the truth in love, applying what was learned in the story of Zacchaeus and the verse from Ephesians 4:15.

To begin, prepare several colored balloons. Inside each balloon, place a piece of paper with a simple situation related to the children’s daily lives, such as: “I accidentally broke something,” “a friend asks me if I lent him my notebook,” “I saw someone do something wrong,” “I’m being accused of something I didn’t do,” among others.

The balloons will be placed in a visible space in the classroom. Then, in turn, each child will choose a balloon, pop it with the teacher’s help, and read or listen to the situation inside. Next, they should respond how they would act in that case by telling the truth, but always with love, respect, and kindness.
