Schedule Continued…

  • Restroom breaks are scheduled throughout the day and students go as a class for supervision/management.
  • Students must be in Homeroom by 8:30 am or they will be marked absent. Homeroom is a great time for students to get extra help, enrichment, and practice reading skills.
  • Students arriving AFTER 8:30 must be signed in by an adult.

Attendance Matters! Something to think about…

When a student misses 2 days a month…

  • They will miss 20 DAYS a year.
  • They will miss 28 HOURS of math over the school year.
  • They will miss 28 HOURS of reading and writing over the year.
  • They will miss over 1 YEAR of school by graduation.

When a student misses 4 days a month…

  • They will miss 40 DAYS a year.
  • They will miss 56 HOURS of math over the school year.
  • They will miss 56 HOURS of reading and writing over the year.
  • They will miss over 2 YEARS of school by graduation.

Students may not exceed 10 absences - lawful or unlawful.

DRESS CODE

  • Clothing style is a way to express yourself. As a South Mustang, it is your responsibility to choose clothing that is respectful for the school setting and follows the dress code outlined below.
    • All clothing must be appropriate. Clothing should not have any offensive language, advertisements, or images visible.
    • All shirts must have sleeves.
    • Shorts and skirts should be mid-thigh or lower in length.
    • No belly shirts where the midriff is exposed. When students raise their hands, the midriff should not become exposed.
    • No ripped jeans or jeans with holes above the knee causing skin to be exposed.
    • Sneakers or tennis shoes must be worn for physical education classes.

Textbooks

  • Textbooks are expensive!
    • Most classes will have a student workbook vs. a textbook. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up with their workbook.
    • Any student who has lost or damaged a textbook will be required to pay a fine which is the cost of replacing the book.
    • Not ALL classes will issue textbooks to individual students because they are available online.

Cell Phone Policy Violations

1st Offense:

  • The incident will be documented with an office referral. The student will be directed to turn off the device and put it away. Parent will be contacted.

Future Offenses:

  • The incident will be documented as a referral which will result in additional disciplinary action, including but not limited to ISS or OSS.
  • Repeated offenses will result in increased disciplinary action.

  • Be ready to learn with required supplies
  • Food & drink allowed only in designated areas
    • Only CLEAR water bottles are permitted
  • Obey all school and district rules

Blocks

  • Issued by teachers for classroom infractions
    • Examples: talking in class, not following directions, out of seat, unprepared, not completing work, etc
  • Block Consequences:
    • 1st block - warning
    • 2nd block - parent contact
    • 3rd block - lunch detention
    • 4th block - team time detention

    • 5th block - parent contact
    • 6th block - detention/PC
    • 7th block - parent contact
    • 8th block - office referral

Media Center

  • Media Specialist: Ms. Michelle Martin
  • Media/Chromebook Assistant: Ms. Ashley Wilson
  • We have two book fairs per year
  • All Chromebook repairs/replacements will go through Ms. Wilson in the Media Center. See the website for price details on chromebook repairs.
  • Chromebook Protection Plan is highly recommended for $30.

Powerschool and Google Classroom

  • Google Classroom used to keep up with homework assignments, tests and projects.

  • Powerschool Parent Portal is used for parents to check student’s grades, attendance, pay fines, register for bus transportation, etc. Passwords are given out at the beginning of the school year. See guidance for more details.

Lunchroom

  • Prices: Free Breakfast / Free Lunch
  • Students are escorted to and from lunch by classroom teacher.
  • Students sit with their class they come to lunch with.
  • Students must use their Student ID number.

Other Important Things to Remember:

  • Parental Contacts
    • We communicate A LOT to keep you informed
    • Remind - main method to communicate (app)
    • Homework is not much, but at the teachers discretion
  • Arrival
    • Doors open at 7:35
    • Breakfast 7:50-8:20
    • Students in class by 8:30
  • Dismissal
    • Bus Riders at 3:25 (2 Rounds)
    • Car riders at 3:30 (after 1st round of bus riders); All car riders should be picked up by 3:45pm

Other Important things to remember:

  • NO student can be signed out after 2:45
  • Change of transportation must be in writing ONLY!
  • Car rider procedures
    • Car Rider Tags (see the office)
  • Breakfast and Lunch are at no cost for any student.
  • Clear Bag policy for guests/visitors at all events including sporting events per District policy.
  • Metal detectors will be used during events and periodically throughout the school day.
