JICHS Performing Arts Dept. Board Report- September
- All Symphonic/Concert Band, Chamber/Concert Strings, Chorus, Percussion, Jazz Band and Piano 2 classes are now performing DAILY in class! More than half of our class is performing music and warm ups together or through SmartMusic and getting DIRECT instruction. It’s not perfect but it is incredible! Parents have said, “I love to hear them play”.
- IB Music is learning the Elements of Music with a focus on Melody this week. They have been writing weekly journals about different topics and writing a Music Artist Statement about their musical journey. They are also deciding on whether to be assessed in Group or Solo performance this spring. Great class.
- Percussion made cardboard marimbas to practice at home. We are playing rudiments together and exploring virtual learning opportunities that online for percussion!
- Jazz Band - We are playing together! We are learning how to speak the language of jazz by listening to the jazz masters and we are going through a new method book together! We even started playing a few big band tunes together!
- Guitar 1 & Piano 1 are learning through a remote curriculum designed by Yale University for Music Appreciation. Mr. Bateman helped put this together for us in Canvas!
- Drama is currently working on their first monologues for class and performing them for their class next week. They are also learning about Performance Etiquette.
