international division of labor= pattern of production where periphery less-skilled workers produce raw materials and manufacturing

  • Vietnam= produces 1.1 billion pairs of shoes

One BENEFIT of neoliberal global trade has been cheaper goods. However the COST of that has been the outsourcing of industrial (secondary sector jobs) out of core countries causing them to deindustrialize and lose jobs.

After learning about offshore outsourcing more is the short-term COST worth the long-term BENEFIT in your opinion?

The UN Sustainable Development Goals

14 of 17

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries - developed and developing - in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Your slides must include ALL of the following:

  1. At least 3 statistics on why this issue is a problem in the world.
  2. On the map, highlight/circle TWO regions of the world where the most work needs to be done to address this issue. In other words, which parts of the world have the furthest to go to reach the UN’s goal and why?
  3. 3 things that can be done to address this issue. What is the UN currently doing to help countries achieve this goal?
  4. Most importantly, WHY DOES IT MATTER for SUSTAINABILITY? Why is your goal important, especially in relation to the others? Think about how your goal, if addressed and achieved, would help in addressing and achieving the other goals.
