WWHW of our project

WHY idea is nice and interesting? - Our character looks pretty and this game can be a time killer or just a way to relax. We used calm colors to achieve that.

WHAT is the game about? - The game is about a Nut elf, who lives on a planet, which consists of clouds and roots. Nut elf prefers to eat worms and doesn’t like to eat spiders. If Nut elf eats the spider one point will be lost.

HOW does it works in general? - The game works with a basic movement system and a raycast on the jump that checks wether the player is touching the ground to prevent double jumps.

Worms and other bugs add points where spiders decrease points with a points manager script.

WAU effect - Nice visuals, calming colors and relaxing gameplay.

Story of our game

The main character of our game is a nice small Nut Elf, who lives in the world which is full of roots and clouds. The Nut Elf prefers to eat bugs, because they are very tasty, but if Nut Elf eats a spider it’s going to be a disaster. Spiders have an incredibly awful taste, so if Nut Elf eats a spider, Nut Elf will lose a point. When all points are lost, game is going to be end.

Future plan

We were planning to add several new levels, some less challenging and some more. We also wanted to add new playable characters and fix some of the bugs, improve our animations and add sounds to our game.

High & Low times of the FGJ 2023

Our team was amazing in brainstorming, communicating, design and illustration, even though we had some problems during work. We still need to fix several bugs like animations and the timer. Some other things could also be implemented like a lives system and multiple levels. A function to go back to the main menu should also be added.

We didn’t aim for any story. We created our own story about a Nut Elf.

Target audience: 10-110 years human and aliens.

We haven't got special levels for super skill players.

Results and what we have learned

We programmed a short platformer game, created a character, interface, background and overall design of the game and its functionality.

We learned how to make pixel art, pixel animations, interface for a game, programming, how vector3 function works (add what u have learned) and effectively work as a team in a short period of time.

Where there any?

There weren’t a lot of challenges, because we quickly found a common ground and understood what was needed.

However, it was our first time drawing backgrounds and animation sprites for a video game. For our programmer it was a first time making a platformer game, so there was lots of things that were very tricky to figure out.

Looking ahead.

More levels will be added and the already existing level should be improved.

A win state will need to be implemented and an expansion to the collectibles.

Adding a patrol system to the spiders could be added.

The health system could be implemented so that you wouldn’t lose points on the spiders but health points.
