Library Reservations

Visits to the library are limited to 1 student per class at a time. Otherwise, reserve the library for your whole class.

Library reservations for book checkout and research instruction have priority over space requests. The flex space can be reserved for physical space requests.

Each teacher needs to submit their own reservation

Video Approval Form

  • A video approval form must be completed for any video (no matter the length) that you want to show that is not written into the district curriculum documents.
    • Ex: You find a 2-minute YouTube video that is dynamite! Fill in the form!
    • Ex: You want to show the movie version of the text you read in class but watching the accompanying video isn’t in the curriculum documents. Fill in the form!
  • Select your appraiser to complete the correct form.

  • In the Gradebook, the Message Students Who feature is enhanced to allow instructors to message students who have submitted an assignment. Options include messaging all students who have submitted, students with graded submissions, and students with ungraded submissions.
  • For students who have not submitted, the Message Students Who feature in the Gradebook is updated to include a checkbox allowing instructors to exclude excused students from the message.

  • In the Rich Content Editor, a Find and Replace plugin is available.
  • When Exporting Course Content, New Quizzes are included in Common Cartridge exports and Course Content export files as XML file type allowing the import of existing quizzes to New Quizzes.

  • When a student's enrollment is deactivated, an inactive label displays next to each inactive section on the People page and in the user context card.
  • In the Course Section tab, the course dates, term dates and section dates display.
  • In SpeedGrader Settings, instructors can randomize the order of students.
    • This was updated again on 6.5.2024 to include randomize the order of students within submission status.

  • In SpeedGrader, the Studio media recorder is introduced for screen capture and captioning. Teachers can record themselves as they annotate in Speedgrader. (this is free for us)
  • Admin and instructors can share item banks with sub-accounts.
  • At the sub-account level, sub-account specific item bank questions can be aligned to outcomes. Root account, sub-account and course names display in Item banks stating where outcomes are sourced and users can see which outcomes belong to courses and sub-accounts. Additionally, the source drop-down menu is available at the course level.
  • Lucid Edu Suite is integrated and enabled by default in all Canvas instances hosted in the US. Users must be over the age of 13.

  • In the Gradebook, the Message Students Who Total Grade modal Cutoff Value field is moved and a header is added. Additionally, a message stating that values seen by the instructor, may differ from the values student’s view displays.

  • In SpeedGrader, after drafting a comment and moving on to another student, a Draft pill displays indicating that the comment has not been submitted.
  • In Settings, when selecting a course to copy or course to cross- list the drop-down menus display the SIS ID and term with the course name in the list when available.
  • On the Home page and Course Settings page, the Publish and Unpublish buttons are redesigned as a drop-down menu.
  • On the Account-level Courses page, admin can sort the status icons column in ascending or descending order.

  • In Discussions, instructors can assign ungraded discussions to students and sections. Additionally, section restricted enrollments allowing students to post discussions to a specific section is removed. Instructors can still create groups, and students within those groups can initiate discussions that are visible only to their group members.
  • For Admin, Analytics Hub is available. We don’t pay for Intelligent Insights so not much has changed.

  • Add auto responses to message. This can used as an out of office message.
  • On the Modules page, instructors can assign students to an entire module and individual module items from the Modules page. Additionally, the Add Module and Edit Module Settings pages are redesigned as trays.

  • The Rubrics page at the admin and course level is redesigned, allowing admin and instructors to search and sort rubrics, view the location rubrics are used, duplicate and archive rubrics, as well as more easily edit existing rubrics. Additionally, the rubrics create and edit interface is redesigned.
  • The Discussion/Announcement Redesign feature option is enforced for all Canvas institutions and the feature option is removed.

  • In the Calendar, when deleting an assignment event, the Confirm Deletion modal text is updated.
  • In Files, when setting availability dates, instructors can also set availability times.
  • In a user’s profile, if fields are empty, text indicates that the information is not provided.
  • In the Individual Gradebook, the Mute checkbox is removed. Additionally, performance and maintenance enhancements are made.

SpeedGrader - Studio Media Recorder

In SpeedGrader, the Studio media recorder is introduced for screen capture and captioning. Teachers can record themselves as they annotate in Speedgrader.

  • The recorder is ONLY available in Chrome and Edge browsers.
  • Closed captions may not be generated instantaneously and may require some time to process and appear.

      • The recordings do not count against the quota and does not impact storage limits.
    • How long will these videos be available in the system?
      • This will be available as long as the assessments are available, similar to feedback comments.

New Integration: Lucid Edu Suite

On June 15th all Canvas users received access to the Lucid Education Suite including.

  • Lucidspark - A collaborative virtual whiteboard
  • Lucidchart - An intelligent diagramming application

Available for teachers with the RCE.

Available for students as their assignment submission.

Teachers will have to do an initial setup the first time they access Lucid through Canvas.

Discussions: AI Generated Summaries

Discussion Summary is a new feature preview available in Canvas. Discussion Summarization uses a Generative AI model to give instructors summaries of the main points, questions, and ideas in a discussion thread.

Smart Search is a new feature preview available in Canvas using advanced AI and semantic algorithms. Currently, the Smart Search feature is querying the following items within a course:

  • Content pages
  • Announcements
  • Discussion prompts
  • Assignment descriptions

By default, the Search link is enabled in the Navigation. Instructors can choose to remove this link from Course Navigation.

Modules: Assign To

On the Modules page, instructors can assign students to an entire module and individual module items from the Modules page. Additionally, the Add Module and Edit Module Settings pages are redesigned as trays.

Additional Notes:

  • The Add Module and Edit Module Settings pages are redesigned as trays
  • If a student is assigned only a specific item within a module and not the entire module, they will see only that item in the feature area, such as an assignment on the assignment page, and not the rest of the module.
  • If a student is assigned an entire module, but only specific items within that module, students can only view the items they are assigned.
  • By default, the modules and items are assigned to everyone.
  • This feature is not available in the TEACHER Mobile app. However, the feature can be used on a mobile device when viewing in a web browser.
  • This feature is not yet available when using Course Pacing.

Additional Notes:

  • Assignment Enhancements feature option must be enabled for students to view the enhanced rubric.
  • Rubrics cannot be edited or deleted once they have been added to an assignment. However, they can be duplicated for additional edits and the creation of new rubrics.
  • In SpeedGrader, instructors can manage the rubric view by clicking the drop-down menu to select a traditional, horizontal, or vertical view.
    • The traditional view will not be available if the rubric contains more than five criteria.

Eduphoria LockDown Browser (TIA testing)

We have removed the Eduphoria LockDown Browser from kiosk mode on the Chromebooks and installed the Eduphoria LockDown Browser extension on all managed devices.

The Lockdown Browser directions for all devices have been updated.

Students on personal Chromebooks need to install this extension to take Aware online assessments that utilize the LockDown Browser.

Eduphoria did a branding update. The change is purely cosmetic and does not impact existing functionality.

Constructed Responses Report

The Aware Report for teachers called Constructed Response Tool has been updated.

Go to Reports and select Constructed Response Tool.

There are several filters teachers can use to filter data between class periods, specific scores, by question and more.

Print a consolidated report as a single document or as individualized report with page breaks between each student’s response.
