Essential Questions

1. What are the special qualities of clay that allow it to be both sculptural and functional? The clay is soft so we can change the shape of the clay to create a decorative but functional piece.

2. What knowledge and basic actions does one need to make a successful piece of creating with clay? To make a successful piece you need to wedge the clay getting rid of the air bubbles and slipping and scoring to make sure that the piece stays intact.

3. How is the kiln involved in pottery production, and how does the clay change after firing? The kiln creates heat drying out the clay.

4. How do artists and designers document the development of their artistic process and why? Artists document their artistic process by taking pictures. This is done so if the piece gets lost or broken you can still document it.
