Entry Criteria

Students need to achieve the following grades in their summer results:

  • Grade 6 in French / Spanish

plus

  • Grade 5 in English Language
  • Any student can apply for any subject - be aspirational

  • Entry criteria are set to enable the best chance of academic success

  • Places are only confirmed on confirmation of results

  • All students should have a total of 5 GCSEs at grade 4 or better

Expectations

Students sit 3 papers at the end of Year 13.

Paper 1-

Listening, Reading and writing (2 hours 30)

This paper has a weighting of 50%.

Paper 2- Writing (2 hours)

The weighting for this paper is 20%

Paper 3- Speaking (21-23 mins)

The weighting for the speaking exam is 30%.

This is essential for success. The minimum expectation is:

For every lesson taught it is expected that you will spend one hour studying the language independently.

This can include completing directed homework tasks, learning vocabulary, revising grammatical concepts, listening to music in the foreign language, following news items related to the country of study as well as watching target language films.

Equipment and Reading List

-In both languages we follow the AQA course.

-Students will have access to the approved textbook published by Oxford University Press and will also be given a login to the online “Kerboodle” resources.

- French students will require a copy of “Un Sac de Billes” by Joseph Joffo for study in Year 13, and Spanish students will require a copy of “Las bicicletas son para el verano’’ by Fernando Fernán Gómez
