The Issue - Why Does This Happen? What are the benefits of solving it?

  • Not all produce looks good, so markets and restaurants aren’t willing to use grotesque food
  • According to Food Waste Feast, around 20% of food is thrown for cosmetic reasons
  • The food may look bad, but tastes perfect

  • Stopping extra food in landfills
  • According to Times, this nation lost 100,000 farms between 2011 and 2018
  • Making sure that farmers don't leave the industry

Our Solution

  • Farmers can enter their information into the database, where other people can access it
    • Information consists of contact info, type of produce, cost, amount, and location
  • All the information gets saved in the database where people who want the produce can access it
  • This way, farmers now have an easy and simple way of getting rid of their unwanted crops without putting them to waste
  • One of the main demographics that purchase these unwanted crops are people with a poor economic background
  • They might not have the money needed to buy produce from other stores, but this way they can get cheaper food that is still fresh and healthy

Scalability in the future

If we were capable of improve our project we would:

  • Enable customers to access the information through a different computer
  • Better API integration for google maps
  • Make the website look more professional and add more pages to it
  • Connecting to local farmers in the area

How This Relates To Our Theme

  • Farmers are an important part of our life that we overlook a lot. They are a cog in the big machine of society and are thought about very little by the average person
  • Without farmers we would not be able to get the crops that are good for us.
  • Food is another part overlooked for impoverished people
