What is dual enrollment?

  • Dual enrollment allows high school students to take college courses while still enrolled in high school. As long as scholars pass the course with a C or better, these classes count for both high school and college credit.
  • Unlike AP (Advanced Placement) courses, students do not need to pass an exam in order to receive college credit for the course.
  • Dual enrollment courses are offered on Heritage Academy Maricopa’s campus and are taught by instructors approved by Rio Salado College and Central Arizona College.
  • Scholars are simultaneously enrolled in our partnering colleges (Rio Salado College & Central Arizona College) as well as Heritage Academy Maricopa.

  • Finish college faster
  • Eliminate non-major (general education) college coursework
  • Enter workforce earlier increasing lifetime earning potential
  • Save money!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I use my 529 plan to pay for dual enrollment courses?
    • Yes! A 529 plan may be used to pay for dual enrollment tuition and fees.

  • Why should I pay for dual enrollment courses when my scholar can get two years of college for free at CAC?
    • There are many benefits to Pinal Promise and it is certainly the right path for some scholars! A few things to consider– students who enroll at CAC and then transfer to a 4-year university become transfer students who are ineligible for first-year merit scholarships (such as NAU’s Lumberjack scholarship). Students who take dual enrollment courses can complete the same amount of coursework (2 years), remain eligible for merit scholarships, and enter the workforce 2 years earlier.

  • What is my scholar does not want to take dual enrollment?
    • Heritage Academy is a college preparatory (College NOW!) high school. While there are a few classes that offer a non-DE option, many of our classes are dual enrollment for all students– meaning scholars are completing the same coursework whether they choose to receive the college credits or not.
