DEBUT: ANOTHER PARTING
MelodyDay made their formal debut after numerous drama OSTs with… a web drama OST. Although they didn’t really garner much attention with a rock ballad, they were immediately recognized as a talented vocal group. The official music video does not feature the girls (then as a 3-piece), so I’ve linked to the performance clip instead.
COMEBACK: ANXIOUS
After nearly a year the girls came back as a 4-piece with Anxious, a modern day power ballad featuring rapper Mad Clown. The music video actually has the girls in it this time, and they #emote a lot while looking gorgeous (usual angsty video affair).
COMEBACK: #LOVEME
After another almost-year the girls came back again, this time with a twist. #LoveMe, a remake of Leki’s “Love Me Another Day”, shifts the girl’s image to something more bubbly and feisty, while showcasing their amazing vocal skills over an upbeat retro pop beat.
COMEBACK: SPEED UP
From #ballads to #bangers, Speed Up riffs KARA at their 5-member prime, delivering a frantic 90’s house number to accompany the era’s sleek and sexy image. It’s big, bold and beautiful, as some cars salesmen would say (I wouldn’t actually know) and the kind of song you rarely hear nowadays. It’s sass, and lots of it.
COMEBACK: COLOR
In a bid for true retro queen status, the girls bring us a Mariah-esque 90s pop hybrid in Color, but don’t just stop there—topping it off with a Pleasantville-inspired music video and 70s hippie clothing for that real smorgasbord of nostalgia.
PRE-RELEASE: YOU SEEM BUSY
With a little assist from Ilhoon of Nation’s Healing-dols BTOB, the girls deliver a heartwarming winter ballad for everyone who’s feeling a little lost in the holiday season. It’s comforting, and exactly what you need on a bad day.
COMEBACK: KISS ON THE LIPS
Summery, sensual and sapphic—it’s all that and more. Centered around funky guitar and steel drums, Kiss On The Lips strikes the balance between vocal showcase and grooving bop, and tops it all off with another of the girls’ aesthetically stunning music videos.
COMEBACK: RESTLESS
After another long stretch, the girls finally returned with this skippy jazz number about a break-up, pairing it with an artful clip that’s gorgeous, comedic and poignant, as a Black Mirror approach to relationships in the virtual age.

YEOEUN
Yeoeun (Jung Jieun)
YEOEUN
Leader . Main Vocal . 1990/01/25 . Instagram
The group’s work-driven single mama. She may come off as cold and unapproachable but don’t let her frank personality fool you! She’s got a big heart. Aside from dedicating her run on Masked Singer to her mother, she also makes sure everyone knows about the other girls any chance she can get.
YOOMIN
Yoomin (Na Yoomin)
YOOMIN
Vocal . Dance . Rap . 1993/08/29 . Instagram
Despite some apprehension at her addition to the group (a lot of media play about her being the niece of famous actor Jang Dong Geun), she’s proven herself to be a valuable member with her bubbly personality and smooth rap style, adding some spice to the group’s mix.
YEIN
Yein (Ahn Yein)
YEIN
Lead Vocal . 1995/05/24 . Instagram
Being the daughter of one of South Korea’s most famous announcers has its perks, such as a mastery of vocal tones and comedic timing that makes her a growing star on the variety circuit, and now she’s showing off her skills, and her sweet side, hosting the radio show “Biscuit & Star Candy”.
CHAHEE
(Yes that’s Youngji!)
Chahee (Park Sooyoung)
CHAHEE
Vocal . Visual . 1996/03/24 . Instagram
Like any maknae, Chahee is the group’s resident cutie, but underneath it all she’s a softie. Her hobbies include art, shopping, travelling, guitar and hanging out with her friends, just like any 20-something in the modern age does, and really, that’s all you need to know.
