  • Based on the book by Victor Hugo and takes place during the French Revolution from 1800-1832
  • It is completely sung - there is no spoken dialogue in the show - so there is A LOT of music.
  • The “School Edition” is 30 min shorter than the regular show at 2hr30min.
  • Likely, both our pit orchestra and our cast will be a little larger than typical for our shows which means more opportunities to participate!

Vocal Info

-Please prepare 16 bars (measures) of a song that you think you sound the best on. Pop/juke box music not preferred. Legit/classical is preferred.

-Choosing a song similar to the show (or by the same composer) is always a good choice, however, it is not the ONLY choice. Trying to learn something new is not always the best plan.

-Bring sheet music with you so Mr. Wilson may accompany you. Mark on the music where to start and where to end. If you cannot find the sheet music, you may sing A Cappella (but we WILL ask you to sing something with Mr. Wilson to check that you can sing in tune).

-Website: musicnotes.com

If you are scared to sing, please talk to Ms. Hallihan before backing out or deciding not to audition.

Not Sure what to sing?

Here is a list of shows that would be a good place to start looking!

  • Phantom of the Opera
  • Miss Saigon
  • Oklahoma!
  • Sweeney Todd
  • The King and I
  • My Fair Lady
  • Porgy and Bess
  • West Side Story
  • South Pacific
  • Show Boat
  • The Music Man

At the end of the day (hehehe…..), go with your gut and sing a song you are comfortable with. We are rooting for you and WANT you to succeed!!!

Acting Info

Both your dance audition and your singing audition equal your “acting” audition. These three things are not isolated skills. They must be done simultaneously in musical theatre. We expect to see character choices, energy and charisma, personality, physicality, and poise in BOTH parts of the audition to show us you can ACT! (Besides, a song is just a monologue set to music.)

(The score is also there, FYI - so use it to prepare for callbacks!)

FOR YOUR INFORMATION

  • There is a place on there asking about whether or not you are comfortable portraying a character of a different gender. There are a lot of male “revolutionaries” in this show and we may need some female identifying actors to play some of them.
  • On “Roles you are interested in”, be honest. Dropping out of a production after a cast list goes up helps no one now or in the future.
  • We WILL be casting ensemble members as understudies for principal roles.
  • We DO INTEND to cast children under 4ft tall for the 3 child roles (Young Cosette/Young Eponine/Gavroche) in the show, though they will likely have HS understudies. There is a place on the form asking if you are interested in being a “buddy” to these young actors. If you are good with kids, consider that question.
