Wayne Thiebaud is an American painter widely known for his paintings of food, such as ice cream cones, pastries, and hot dogs. He was born in Arizona but moved to California when he was 6 months old.

His subject matters include landscapes, figures and still-life artworks. Even though these artworks are all different you can tell they are by the same artist. Thiebaud uses the same exaggerated and well defined shadows to depict his subjects.

His most famous paintings are all of yummy desserts.

He is especially well known for his cake paintings.

When we look at the form of a cake, we are looking at a cylinder. The top and bottom of the cake are ellipses. When a piece of cake has a missing slice out of it we need to use angles to create that missing slices. We must also use perpendicular and parallel lines in order for our drawing to be in perspective.
