Theme: Understanding the Times and Seasons

  • In life, we go through different seasons. Just as nature has seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—our lives, ministries, and the world itself move through different spiritual and prophetic seasons. If we fail to recognize these seasons, we may act in ways that hinder our progress and miss divine opportunities.

Introduction

  • Ecclesiastes 3:1 declares, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:” God has set specific times for events in our lives. However, many struggle because they do not understand these divine timings. Some try to plant in winter or harvest in spring, not realizing that each season has its purpose. As believers, we must discern the times and seasons so that we align with God's purpose and move forward in His will.

A. Biblical Understanding of Times and Seasons

  1. God is a God of Order and Timing
    • Genesis 8:22 – “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night shall not cease.”
    • Daniel 2:21 – “He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings.”
  2. Jesus Operated by Divine Timing
    • John 2:4 – Jesus said, ‘My hour has not yet come.’
    • Galatians 4:4 – “But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth His Son.”

B. Lessons from the Sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32)

  • The Bible speaks of the Sons of Issachar as men “who had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do.”
  • They had wisdom to discern political, social, and spiritual climates.
  • We, too, must have discernment in our families, businesses, ministries, and communities.

C. Recognizing God’s Timing in Our Lives

  • There are different spiritual seasons:
    1. Season of Preparation (Waiting) – Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness before God called him (Exodus 3).
    2. Season of Testing (Trials and Growth) – Joseph endured hardship before rising to power (Genesis 41).
    3. Season of Harvest (Fruitfulness and Fulfillment) – Jesus' ministry started at the appointed time (Luke 4:18-19).

D. Responding to the Season We Are In

1. In a Waiting Season – Be Patient and Prepare

    • Psalm 27:14 – “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage.”
    • Don’t rush ahead of God; use the time to build your faith.

3. In a Season of Harvest – Stay Humble and Serve

    • Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." NIV
    • Success should lead to gratitude and greater service, not pride.

Conclusion

  • Understanding the times and seasons helps us avoid frustration and align with God's perfect will. We must learn to discern when to wait, when to act, when to endure, and when to reap. Just as a farmer does not expect a harvest immediately after planting, we must recognize that God’s promises are fulfilled in His perfect timing.

Application

  1. Ask God for wisdom to discern your current season (James 1:5).
  2. Be faithful in your present season, whether waiting, testing, or reaping.
  3. Encourage others by helping them recognize their seasons in life.
  4. Remain in prayer and the Word, so that you are sensitive to God’s leading.
