GOAL 1: Research

Choice A:

“Intro video”

- Watch the Intro video (5:57) and pause and discuss as needed. The video covers important historical, geographic, and cultural aspects of Australia.

“LT: Getting Started”

- Read or summarize the first paragraph.

- Scroll down to the 1856 map to show the Australian states at that time, and then scroll down to show the 1911 map with its provinces.

- In the Federation in 1901 paragraph read the last sentence and mention the National Archives of Australia.

“LT: Basics of Australian Research”

- Briefly summarize the first two paragraphs to emphasize the immigrant characteristics of Australia.

- In the third paragraph, mention that no census records remain in Australia, so other collections such as vital records must be relied on.

“CoraWeb”

- Open the website and show the main categories panel on the right. Mention that there are many links to state record resources, and these can be explored later.

- Watch the Intro video (7:52) and pause and discuss as needed. The video covers important record resources for Australian genealogy.

- In the YouTube video, click “more” in the description and scroll down to the Key Moments section.

- For each entry (5 in all), click the screenshot and briefly review the bullet points on the slides that describe the particular archive or record source.

- In History of … read and discuss the second and third paragraphs to review the history of surnames in Australia.
