  • Students are required to earn 24 service hours as a part of the graduation requirements.
  • Service-learning is a teaching method that combines meaningful service to the community with curriculum-based learning.
  • Students improve their academic skills by applying what they learn in school to the real world; they then reflect on their experience to reinforce the link between their service and their learning.
  • Participating in an activity and not receiving pay DOES NOT always qualify for service learning hours. The site must be a non-profit agency.

Prep for SAT/ACT (If Required)

Narrow down your list of Likely, Target, and Reach schools. Explore each school’s programs, culture, deadlines, and admissions requirements.

Begin brainstorming and drafting your personal statement and supplemental essays. Summer is the perfect time to write without the stress of schoolwork.

Identify and ask your teachers early—before school starts! Provide them with a brag sheet or resume so they can write strong, detailed letters.

Register for early fall test dates if needed and study consistently. Even test-optional schools may consider strong scores a plus.

Visit Campuses (Virtual or In-Person)

Tour schools to get a feel for campus life. Many colleges offer summer visit programs or virtual tours and info sessions.

6

Organize a Scholarship Search Plan

Start gathering a list of scholarships and deadlines. Create a spreadsheet or use scholarship platforms to stay organized.

Update Your Resume/Activity List

Capture everything you’ve been involved in—leadership roles, clubs, sports, community service—this will be needed for applications and recommenders.

Create an Application Timeline

Use a calendar or checklist to track deadlines for applications, financial aid, scholarships, and more. Stay ahead, not behind.

Schedule a College Planning Session

Connect with a mentor, counselor, or college planning expert (like yours truly) for tailored guidance, feedback, and peace of mind.

Work or Volunteer

Jobs, internships, or service hours show responsibility, leadership, and real-world experience—great for applications and scholarships.
