Non-objective: A type of art that does not represent actual objects, scenes or figures.

Pattern: A design that repeats itself.

Random Pattern: You know what is coming next, but you might not know what color or way it is facing. See happy face poster below as example.

Consistent Pattern: Design that repeats itself exactly example red x blue o red x blue o.

Contrast: The difference between 2 unlike things such as a dark color and a light color.

Line: A mark on a surface that can vary in thickness, length, direction, color etc.

Balance: The arrangement of parts of an artwork that overall give a sense of equality in visual weight.

Directions and How to Video

  • Create a scribble that fills at least 75% and had 15-20 different sections.
  • Use different nonobjective patterns for each section
  • Vary line length and thickness
  • Make sections 50-50 black and white to create balance.
  • Use a ruler or a straight edge for all your straight lines (you all should have gotten a ruler as a bookmark in your agenda book) =)
  • Ink is ALL the same black color (the black Flair pen in your art kit) Don't use a sharpie or black crayola marker, they will be different blacks.
  • Use creative patterns. Look at examples from google> images> zentangle!
  • Take your time
  • Be neat
  • Color black sections completely
  • Erase pencil Lines!

  • Should be in pencil so you do not waste the ink in your pen
