Science Enrichment Opportunities
Attention middle and high school students! MCPS is hosting the 3rd annual Youth Climate Summit from 8:30 a.m.–3:35 p.m. on Saturday, April 13 at Tilden Middle School. This event is designed to teach MCPS secondary students about climate change and equip them with the tools to create projects in their communities. Students are invited to speak with environmental mentors, collaborate with student leaders, gain imperative environmental information and learn how to grow as environmental activists. All students participating will receive Student Service Learning (SSL) hours and transportation will be provided on the newly-implemented MCPS electric buses. For details, see the YCS Website.
GEMS Program The Gains in the Education of Mathematics and Science (GEMS) program at Fort Detrick brings local students to the cutting-edge world of science for the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (USAMRDC). The program is designed for current 4th through 11th grade students of all academic abilities in the 2023-2024 school calendar. GEMS promises a hands-on experience that will excite. Spring Break Science Adventures
Join us for an exciting intergenerational (ages 8-adult) hands-on workshop to learn about the liver! Did you know that the liver is one of the hardest working organs in our body? It's responsible for so many important functions that help keep us feeling our best. You'll have the chance to dive deep into the world of liver health and discover all the amazing things this organ does for us, like regulation of the digestive system, blood clotting, and energy production.
