Psi Chi’s mission is to foster excellence in the academia of all fields relevant to psychology and its scientific applications.

Founded in 1929, Psi Chi is one of the largest honor societies in the United States.

The Psi Chi Lifetime Membership

Lifetime membership is $60. This membership includes, but not limited to:

  • More than $400,000 available in scholarships and grants that you will be able to apply for.
  • Ability to be published in the official Psi Chi Journal of Psychological Research as well as other psychology journals.
  • Attendance at regional and national conventions in showcasing research and developments in psychology.
  • Networking opportunities with Psi Chi alumni.
  • You can order and wear official Psi Chi graduation regala via the Psi Chi website to display your achievements as an honor student in Psychology.

ACCEPTANCE REQUIREMENTS

GPA REQUIREMENTS:

  • SOPHOMORE (36-60 credit hours) → 3.367
  • JUNIOR (61-90 credit hours) → 3.375
  • SENIOR (91+ credit hours) → 3.537

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Psychology Course GPA → 3.0
  • 3 semesters or equivalent of full-time college coursework at any institution*
  • 9 semester credit hours or equivalent of psychology courses
  • *Transfers: if institution transfers both grades and credits, same requirements as above
  • If institution transfers only credits, then 12 overall credit hours and 9 psychology credit hours specifically at UCF

Application Process

  • Applications are now open! Applications will close October 17 at 11:59

  • Apply on psichi.org
  • Email ucfpsichi@gmail.com proof of your submitted application to the Psi Chi website by saving it as a .pdf or printing and scanning it as a .pdf.
  • Email Matthew.Chin@ucf.edu a .pdf version of your UCF degree audit
  • After acceptance: Pay a $60 Psi Chi Organization fee on their website
  • Pay a $15 fee for the Local Chapter dues through UCF Psi Chi’s Paypal
  • Due to the current situation, Psi Chi will only be accepting payments via debit card for the lifetime membership fee.
  • Once the materials listed above have been approved by a Psi Chi Officer, you will receive an email with a fee invoice.
  • Once you pay UCF Psi Chi’s local chapter dues through Paypal, we will send you an email from the Psi Chi Officers to confirm your application submission and acceptance into UCF’s Psi Chi Chapter.

Meeting Information

  • MEETINGS ARE NOT MANDATORY

  • Anyone interested in Psi Chi can attend our meetings.

  • Our meetings are going to be held every other Monday (unless otherwise specified) from 6:30PM-7:20PM

  • Meetings will be both in person and held on Zoom

  • Zoom recordings and meeting slides will be posted on our website after each meeting

Research Roadmaps

Research Roadmaps was developed to help undergraduate students understand what research is and how to get involved at UCF. This non-credit, online course can be started at any time and is ideal for students with busy schedules, students who are not able to attend our events on the main campus, and students who have attended a workshop and need a refresher.

After submitting the form, students will be added to the Webcourse and have access within 3 business days. The modules are completely self-paced and does not count for course credit. If you have any questions contact us at our@ucf.edu.

Becoming a Research Assistant

  • Go to https://our.ucf.edu/prospective/positions/ and browse different research assistant positions
    • Not just psychology labs
    • Meet with Undergraduate Office of Research (OUR) and get code that lets you apply to positions listed on the linked website

Honors Undergraduate Thesis

  • Honors in the Major vs. Interdisciplinary Thesis.
  • Two-to-four semester program for juniors and seniors.
  • Students research, write, defend and publish an original research paper.
  • Develop a strong mentoring relationship with faculty.
  • Belong to the Burnett Honors College.
  • Graduate with honors.

Requirements

  • 60 completed credits overall
  • 12 completed upper-division credits
  • Minimum 3.4 UCF GPA or overall GPA
  • At least two semesters remaining prior to graduation

Teaching Assistant

  • Usually at the end of a course, a professor will offer teaching assistant positions to students who received an A in the course

  • Responsibilities as a TA can range from grading assignments to hosting review sessions

  • If the professor does not offer positions at the end of the semester, try emailing them to see if they need any TAs

  • If you haven’t already been a TA, you will have to take PSY 4942 - Instructional Experiences in Undergraduate Psychology (3 credit hours)
