THE DEFINITION OF PRAYER

​

Prayer is communicating with God. It takes different forms, but basically it occurs when man talks with God and God talks with man. Prayer is described as:

​

Calling upon the name of the Lord: Genesis 12:8

Crying unto God: Psalms 27:7; 34:6

Drawing near to God: Psalms 73:28; Hebrews 10:22

Looking up: Psalms 5:3

Lifting up the soul: Psalms 25:1

Lifting up the heart: Lamentations 3:41

The Priesthood of Believers

The universal priesthood or the priesthood of all believers is a Protestant Christian doctrine stating that ordinary Christians share a common priesthood in that they have direct access to God through their prayers without requiring a human mediator. (The Reformation)

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: (1 Peter 2:9)

• Mediators – between God & people.
• Took the people's sacrifices (Leviticus 4:20, 26, 31; Hebrews 8:4).
• The High Priest, represented Israel before God (Exodus 28:12; Hebrews 5:1).
• Intercessors for people before God (Leviticus 9:22-24; Numbers 6:22-27).
• Prayer: inquire of God for the nation (Exodus 28:30).
• Temple Maintenance, and served as musicians, singers, doorkeepers. (Numbers 1:50-53; 3:6-9; 4:1-33; I Chronicles 23).
• The Levites were also the teachers of Israel (Deuteronomy 24:8; 33:10; II Chronicles 35:3; Nehemiah 8:7)
• The were scribes (II Chronicles 34:13).
