  • Complete the "Advanced Placement Course Letter of Understanding

Advanced Placement (AP) courses are rigorous, two-semester college level courses designed for students eligible for honors level instruction.

Student should have:

  • Straight A’s
  • Honors courses
  • “Standards Exceeded” on SBAC

FOREIGN LANGUAGE FAQs

Q: What if I took Spanish 1 in middle school?

A: You will take Spanish 2 in 9th grade.

Q: What if I already speak Spanish fluently?

A: Take Spanish Sp1; this counts as 2 years of credit and completes the

high school graduation requirement.

Q: May I take Spanish 1 over the summer at a community college?

Will the credit go on the transcript?

A: One semester at community college equals one year in high school. � You would take Spanish 2 if you take the one semester class.

Q: If took SAT Subject test in Japanese and passed, am I done with foreign language?

A: Yes, a passing SAT Subject test meets the LOTE requirement.

Q: Are there any other Foreign Language Available?

A: Yes, you may take American Sign Language (ASL) as a Dual Enrollment class

through Pierce College starting in 10th grade.

  • What classes count as “PE”?

Dance, JROTC, Sports, Marching Band, Cheer

  • May I take an AP class in the 9th grade?

Yes, but these need to be approved on an individual basis. Please email counselor.

  • Does “Adv PE 1” mean it’s an advanced class?

No, that is just the title; dance classes must all have the same title for district compliance.

  • What is the dress code for PE?

Gray shirt, red shorts… if taking Dance, Sports or Band then wait� for specifics.

ENROLLMENT PROCESS

If you are matriculating from an LAUSD middle school, then you DO NOT need to complete new enrollment paperwork!

  1. Log into Parent Portal and verify contact information �
  2. Upload completed Enrollment Verification form to confirm you have completed the steps.

That's It!

If you are matriculating from out-of-district or have not attended an LAUSD school within last two years:

  1. Start Application at Unified Enrollment site. Create a Parent Login and answer enrollment QAs.
  2. Gather and upload scanned files:

1. Student's birth certificate

2. Proof of Residence (Utility bill for Gas, Water or Electric)

3. Parent/Guardian/Caregiver ID

4. Proof of Immunization

CLEARING ABSENCES

  1. Parent Note (Upload Document in Parent Portal)

  1. Clearance Card (Student Drop off to Attendance Office)
  2. You must submit an Absence Clearance within one day of returning to school.
  3. Absence Clearance Cards are available in the Attendance Office (Keep a few blanks at home).
  4. Uncleared Absences will become Truancies.
  5. Ask the teacher for the work missed. It is It’s YOUR responsibility.

EARLY LEAVES & PICK UP

  • Requests for Early Leaves must be submitted to the Attendance Office at the beginning of the school day.

  • Students will only be released to an adult on the Emergency Card �(No Exceptions)!
  • Adults must have valid Photo ID�(No Exceptions)!

TRANSPORTATION

  • You must live more than 3 miles away to receive transportation. (1-800 LA-BUSES)
  • There is a Late Bus that leaves at 5:45 pm daily! EXCEPT for Tuesdays!� THERE IS NO LATE BUS ON TUESDAYS!
  • You can get a Permanent or Temporary Late Bus Pass if you participate in any valid after-school program.
