Hello - I am Mr. Sears, and I teach 7th Grade Science here at Schmucker. I am also the Intramurals Director, and I’d like to begin by telling you what that means.
Here is a miniature word-study for all of you word-lovers out there. --- Word-haters – please read along as well!
INTRA – means “Within”
And MURALS – means “Walls”
So INTRAMURALS means “within the walls”
Schmucker intramurals means “Within the walls of Schmucker”
In other words, Intramural activities are those that are done among the students within a school as opposed to our typical school sports teams that practice together and then compete against teams from OTHER schools. Those would be known as interscholastic sports. Football, volleyball, and cross-country are examples of interscholastic sports teams that will be starting in the Fall.
So - while our school teams are out practicing or competing against other schools, YOU can be playing some fun sports or activities right here at Schmucker. This year, Intramurals participants could participate in the following activities: Ultimate (Frisbee Football), Volleyball, Flag Football, Foosball, Corhnhole, Indoor Soccer, ZipChipping, TechDecking, and early-bird open gym! Looking ahead to next year, we plan to continue some of our fun activities and add some exciting new ones like Pickleball, and bring back some old favorites like Disc Golf and Dodgeball.
Any activity we offer in the intramurals program is FREE, and you are not required to attend a certain number of times or anything like that… you just come to the activities you choose. How do I sign up? (REQUIRED!) If you think you may want to participate in any intramural activities, all you have to do is have your parents sign you up at registermyathlete.com and select “Intramurals”.
Parents and/or students can get Free Reminders and/or Text alerts so you can stay informed about intramural activities throughout the year! These are called REMIND alerts, and you can find the link on the SMS Website. Click HERE to sign up for REMIND alerts
One last thing - This is a call-out to any teachers who may be interested in supervising some of our intramural sessions. Please contact me to let me know!
Thank you,
Mr. Sears
