What is College Credit Plus(CCP)?

CCP is Ohio dual enrollment program

• Provides students in grades 7-12 to earn college and high school credit at the same time
• Tuition free for students
• Offered on High School Campus or at Ohio Public Institution
• At the home high school with approved WE High School Teacher/Adjunct Professor
• At the college/university with College Professor

Why CCP for Willoughby-Eastlake Students?

• Prepares students for both Post-Secondary education and careers
• Increases access to a broad range of rigorous content
• Provides cost savings to parents/families for college education and or career enhancements
• 4-year institutions average a 52% graduation rate; the number may be higher among students who take longer than 6 years to graduate.

• 2-year college prep program in a technical field that students can select for their junior and senior year of high school enabling them to earn college credit

Advanced Placement

• Students can earn college credit by taking advanced placement classes at their home school
• Students enrolled in advanced placement classes are required to take the AP Exam
• Students who score a 3 or above on AP exams may earn college credit
• The cost of each AP Exam is $98
• If a student has applied for and received the Free or Reduced status, the cost of the AP Exam will be reduced to $36.00.
• Each student is responsible for the cost of each AP Exam taken.
• The fee is established by the College Board and is subject to change. It will be assessed as part of the annual student fee statement.

Criteria for Participation

1. Students must be enrolled in grades 7-12
2. Complete the “Intent to Participate Form” online by April 1^st
3. File a CCP application with Lakeland Community College or participating college/university of choice. (Maturity waiver is part of the application process)
4. Submit transcript to LCC or participating college/university of choice
5. Meet CCP Admission Criteria

***To participate in math courses through CCP, students must have successfully completed Algebra 2 and place into college-level math. Lakeland’s placement exam and/or ACT/SAT scores may be used.

6. Parents and Students must attend a CCP registration/information session at LCC or participating college/university of choice

Student Eligibility Requirements and Placement Requirements

Weighting of Grades in CCP

• CCP courses are taught by instructors who can ensure the rigor and relevance of each provided course matches that of an advanced placement course
• Weighted grades in the core classes (English, Math, Social Studies, Science) will encourage students to seek out new challenges in a safe environment during the school day within their school, with WE staff
• State law requires all advanced standing courses (AP, CCP) to be weighted in core classes the same regardless of where the student takes the course

For Example: Willoughby-Eastlake offers Advanced Placement courses in the English Department. This means that all CCP English courses will be weighted on the Advanced Placement Scale.

• If an AP course is not offered at the home high school in a certain subject area but an Honors course is offered the class will be weighted on the Honors scale

For Example: If Willoughby-Eastlake did not offer Advanced Placement course in a specific department, but did offer Honors courses in that department, then all CCP courses within that department would be weighted on the Honors Scale.

�What Are My Academic, Social and Financial Responsibilities?�

• Application to the college is the responsibility of the student.

​

• Complete Maturity Waiver-The student will be exposed to college level ideas, materials and resources. The student must complete the Maturity Waiver indicating that they possess the necessary social and emotional maturity.

​

• Attending a registration session and registering for courses in both the Fall and the Spring, is the responsibility of the student.

​

�What Are My Academic, Social and Financial Responsibilities?�

• Expected to follow the rules and regulations set by the college/university, including adherence to their grading policies.
• Once enrolled, the student is eligible to receive advising from campus-based support services of that institution.
• Expected to follow the rules and regulations set for high school students detailed in the student handbook.
• Continued access to the H.S. school counselor and all other resources available to high school students.

�What Are My Academic, Social and Financial Responsibilities?�

• Participation in College Credit Plus does not guarantee admission to college after high school.
• Student should follow the regular undergraduate application process for whatever college you plan to attend after high school.
• Certain colleges and universities allow for the rental of textbooks. The rental fee is paid for by Willoughby-Eastlake City Schools. However, if those textbooks are NOT returned to the college or university, the student will be charged for the full price of a replacement textbook.

• Transportation
• Student/Parent or Guardian is responsible
• Calendar
• Vacation days at the home school and CCP school may not coincide
• Attendance is the student’s responsibility
• Fees
• Financial obligations become the parent/student responsibility
• Late withdrawal from the class
• Student does not receive a passing grade
• Students who choose to exceed 30 credit hours in one school year will be responsible for overage payment
• Students taking courses on the College/University campus who fail to return their Textbook will be charged for the replacement cost of the textbook

Possible Concerns

• Qualifying for Graduation
• A failure to successfully complete a CCP course may result in being placed on CCP Probation and/or Removal from the CCP Program, as well as delay of high school graduation.
• CCP Probation- Failure to maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA in CCP courses or withdraw from or receive no credit for two or more courses in the same term of enrollment. While on probation the student may only take one CCP course per term.
• Removal from CCP – If the student fails to raise their grade point average in CCP courses above 2.0 and they are slated for CCP Probation for two consecutive terms, they will be removed from the program.

• High school students will face new challenges emotionally and socially
• Parental Access and FERPA-CCP
• Students are treated as adults and own their education records once they enroll in a CCP course.
• No access to CCP Grades in PowerSchool

�How Does College Credit Plus Impact Athletic Eligibility?�

• If you are a student athlete, you must remain eligible in accordance with the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) bylaws.
• To be athletically eligible, students must be passing five, one credit courses or the equivalent per grading period with the high school and college courses combined.
• Most College Credit Plus courses taken during a semester will equal one Carnegie Unit, allowing students to earn more than the required five for athletic eligibility.
• Please check with your guidance counselor to ensure that the course work you are taking is compliant with OHSAA.  

Summer CCP

• CCP courses will be offered in the summer at no charge to the student
• Summer CCP courses preceding the school year are included in the 30 credit hours
• Remedial courses will not be paid for by the district under CCP

• Check application deadlines for other colleges/universities if applicable
• Classes Begin
• Lakeland Fall Classes typically begin last week in August
• Willoughby-Eastlake classes typically begin the by the 2nd to last week in August
• Check the calendars of other colleges/universities if applicable
