GPA Information

  • Different institutions have different criteria for calculating GPA
  • At PCHS we have two GPA’s, standard and ranked. Ranked GPA is used to determine your rank among your classmates. We use weighted course scores for Ranked GPA. Standard GPA uses the points you’ve earned from every credit bearing course you have taken.
  • GPA can be expressed in a 100 point scale, on a 4.0 scale or a 5.0 scale
  • The formula I am giving you will produce a GPA on a 100 point scale
  • If you need to convert to 4.0 simply multiply your answer by .04

Exceptions

  • If you failed a class and did NOT retake the class you must use your failing grade for GPA calculation. If you retook the class you will only use the passing grade
  • You may only use 4 credits from athletics, band, learning strategies and print journalism for GPA calculation (or any repeating course)

After noting those exceptions

  • Multiply each Final Grade by the Cr. Attempted (Credit Attempted) and list that number under class GPA
  • When you have calculated all of the class GPA’s add the total number of credits attempted. Add the total of all Class GPA’s.
  • Divide the class GPA by the total number of credit’s attempted. This is your standard high school GPA based on a 100 point scale. If you need it on a 4.0 scale simply multiply by .04
