In the 15th-century the writer Christine de Pizan protested misogyny and the role of women in the Middle Ages. Years later, writers and philosophers like Margaret Cavendish, the Duchess of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and Mary Wollstonecraft, author of A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, argued vigorously for greater equality for women (History, 2019). All of these people advocated for the dignity, intelligence, and basic human potential of the female sex.

Discussions about the vote and women's participation in politics led to an examination of the differences between men and women.

Much of the movement's energy was focused on passing the Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution guaranteeing social equality regardless of sex.

The Seneca Falls Convention in 1848, which describes the new movement ideology and political strategies.

Feminism is important today due to cases of femicide, gender-based violence and misogyny so present especially in Latin America. This is why women continue to fight to end the patriarchal structure that violates us day by day.
