FIRST NPP in the MIDDLE EAST

1. As illustrated in the image on the left, KHNP has experience in constructing up to nine units simultaneously, including four units in the U.A.E. nuclear power plant. With such extensive capabilities, KHNP is well-equipped to construct reactors domestically and internationally at the same time.

2. Furthermore, considering the landlocked nature of the Czech Republic, KHNP recognizes that the transportation of heavy equipment is one of the crucial tasks for the timely completion of the Dukovany project.

3. In terms of heavy equipment transportation, KHNP has conducted route analysis three times: in 2019, 2023, and this year. The company is currently identifying necessary actions to address all identified challenges.

4. According to the plan, heavy equipment will be transported via 850km of waterways and 150km of road routes, ensuring safe arrival at the Dukovany site.

5. In addition to risks related to heavy equipment transportation, KHNP will proactively investigate various factors that could lead to construction delays and implement measures to mitigate these risks, ensuring the new nuclear power plant starts commercial operation by 2036.

KHNP’s Localization Strategy

Over 200 companies identified by KHNP, total 1,000 companies by Korean companies & 76 MOUs concluded

1. For successful project execution, cooperation with the Czech industry is essential.

2. KHNP is the only supplier to construct the new Czech nuclear power plant, with turbines produced in the Czech Republic.

3. Doosan Enerbility announced its plan to transfer generator technology and carbon-free technology to Skoda Power during the Doosan Partnership Day event hosted in Prague last May, reaffirming its commitment to cooperation with the Czech industry including Skoda Power.

4. This will enhance Skoda Power’s capabilities to supply generator equipment, increase the volume of exports, and contribute to the growth of the Czech Republic’s GDP.

5. KHNP has a plan for localization at a level of 60% or higher in the construction of the Dukovany nuclear power plant. To achieve the localization goal, KHNP has been identifying a lot of Czech companies and engaging in ongoing discussions regarding cooperation with them.

6. As the outcome of these efforts, the Korean companies have identified a total of about 1000 Czech companies, including more than 200 Czech companies has been identified by KHNP, and signed more than 50 MOUs with them.

7. As indicated in this slide, KHNP has remained actively involved in discussions regarding cooperation with Czech companies to achieve its localization goal.

1. KHNP is well aware of the Czech Republic’s consistently low unemployment rate. If the low unemployment rate extends into 2029 when construction begins in earnest, KHNP will address the shortage of manpower as shown in this slide:

2. It is anticipated that the construction of one unit in Dukovany will require approximately 3,000 workers, while the construction of two units will necessitate around 5,000 workers.

3. First, KHNP will prioritize Czech workers and fully utilize the available workforce from the Czech Republic, in line with localization efforts.

4. Second, if the workforce from the Czech Republic is insufficient due to low unemployment rates, workers from neighboring European countries will be employed.

5. Lastly, if the workforce from the Czech Republic and European countries is still insufficient, KHNP will coordinate with Czech authorities to mobilize personnel experienced in the U.A.E. project and employ personnel from countries preferred by the Czech Republic.

2. Not only in Korea, the same goes for the Czech Republic, where KHNP communicates and share views with local communities, provides assistance to communities in need, and partakes in pleasure together.

3. KHNP has been actively engaged in global volunteering programs in the Czech Republic since 2017, and this commitment has continued through the present year. Even during the pandemic, KHNP has continued its social contribution activities such as donating protective equipment (such as masks) and sponsoring the region’s ice hockey team.

4. KHNP takes further pleasure in the successful performance of the ice hockey team it sponsors, which has overcome significant challenges posed by the pandemic.

As part of such dedication, KHNP, along with Korea’s Export Credit Agencies (K-ECAs), has proposed financial cooperation plans to the Czech government last April.
