History

  • Pre-COVID time: a couple people were working separately on food insecurity issues:
    • Max and others: Created Food Pantry at Wesely
    • Two Previous Undergrads (Sammie + One): Helped organize swipe drive with Sodexo.

  • Post-COVID:
    • Max + Jenny (Wellness) + Calandra (Sustainability) + Sam (Sodexo) + Monica (Sodexo) + Students : Organized volunteers & advertised food pantry last year, coordinated with Sodexo for $, brainstormed for on-campus food pantry.
    • Zach + Student Assembly : COVID Food Delivery (This semester)

  • Students, faculty, and staff with (student or other) debt, or trying to save money,or who want to get food for a future “rainy day” can ALL utilize the:
    • Food Pantry
    • Swipe vouchers
    • COVID-19 Delivery Service

Four Positions + Three Committees

Four Positions: President, Food Pantry Chair, Swipe Chair, Outreach/Innovation Chair:

  • President: Oversees and designs agenda for meetings & assist chairs with tasks
  • Food Pantry Chair: Oversees food pantry volunteers, logistics (including COVID delivery), apply for grants, make sure enough supply in the pantry plus demand for pantry.
  • Swipe Chair: Coordinates semester swipe drives and other initiatives with Sodexo, including donation of dining dollars
  • Outreach/Innovation: Promote the club on social media, create and execute new initiatives to address food insecurity.
  • Each Position will have a committee (Group of people to help certain initiative)

Food Pantry Chair + Committee

  • Objectives:
    • Manage food pantry volunteers.
    • Ensure volunteers are completing the sign-up sheets.

    • COVID-19 Food Delivery
    • Work in tandem with Max on applying for food bank grants, finances, etc.

    • Reach out to local businesses so they can donate food
      • Food lion, Panera, Saturday farmer’s market, etc
        • Fresh fruit and vegetables?
        • Fridge/freezer? (permit required)
    • Distribute food pantry flyers, instagram & facebook stuff too

Swipe Drive Chair + Committee

Objectives:

    • Coordinate with the University Dining liaison (Monica Sayer & Jason) to advertise and set up the once a semester swipe drive
      • Manage volunteers for the swipe drive (3 dining halls, about 7am-7pm, so may need like 36 or so volunteers if each volunteer will do an hour shift)
      • Check up/assist on the digitization of swipes so students can discreetly use swipes instead of having to go to food pantry
      • Figure out what Greater City does with donations of dining dollars, maybe they can be placed at the food pantry as vouchers
    • Create new initiatives in partnership with University Dining
      • Last spring semseter, they donated $1,025, see if they want to do a public showing like that again
    • Advertise the swipe drive!!!!!!!!!!! And free dining dollars, if we’ve figured if we can do it or not!!!!

Outreach & Innovation Chair + Committee

Objectives-

      • Most important position (for now)
      • Promote the club on all relevant social media and school-related platforms, included but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Student Happenings, and any newsletter/outreach promoted by FFA.
        • SEE NEXT SLIDE
      • Create and execute new initiatives to reach those who need food and raise awareness of food insecurity
        • On campus food pantry or swipe in pantry!! (To show College we need it)
