Decision to Adopt ReShare: Consortial Perspectives

ConnectNY: 12 private academic institutions in NY State

  • Used Innovative’s INN-Reach consortial borrowing system 2002-2021
  • 2016: Environmental scan done by a working group
  • 2017: Worked with a consultant to determine options with an outcome to watch the resource sharing market for new products
  • 2019: Joined ReShare community
  • 2021: Exited INN-Reach, implemented ReShare

Decision to Adopt ReShare: Consortial Perspectives

PALCI - The Partnership for Academic Library Collaboration & Innovation

74 libraries in PA, NJ, NY & WV

EZBorrow - Expedited consortial interlibrary loan platform serving 53 libraries, 12 ILS types

  1. Working Group on the Future of Resource Delivery (2017-18) to address shared concerns
  2. Environmental scan and consideration of what was needed for the next generation of EZBorrow
  3. Developed a report and a set of guiding principles recommending ReShare, resulting in a PALCI Board contribution of $100,000 to support initial UX development with intent to implement
    1. Next Gen System Requirements: Open source/ community-owned, vendor neutral, improve upon current level of service, affordable, support for all standard protocols including NCIP, online processing, aggregated catalog of PALCI holdings; easily integrated and interoperable with all ILS types and discovery; available in a 3-4 year timeline
    2. Wishlist: cross-consortial capabilities; Open-ended to support innovation; Development partner with shared vision

How to Get Involved with the ReShare Community

If your organization is not a member yet:

  • Individual libraries, consortia, and commercial service providers can join ReShare
  • Benefits of joining include:
    • Opportunity to influence software development roadmap and community direction through member feedback forums;
    • A voting representative for your organization, with the opportunity to be elected to the Steering Committee;
    • Inclusion on the Project ReShare website;
    • Early access to software testing/development partner opportunities; and
    • Access to discounts from Certified ReShare Service Providers for ReShare-related services.

How to Get Involved with the ReShare Community

If your organization is already a member:

  • Join working groups including subject matter experts, product management, community engagement, and communication.
  • If you are the designated voting representative for your organization, you can run for open seats on the Steering Committee. Voting representatives can be found at projectreshare.org/about/members/.
  • Invites to community meetings that are not held publicly and other ReShare events.
  • Plus everything listed on the previous slide.

Governance Structure

The Steering Committee provides comprehensive oversight for the ReShare community and is responsible for setting the strategic roadmap, arbitrating resource allocation and commitment, and managing risk and funding for the Community efforts.

This includes charging and coordinating the working groups.
