  • COMMITMENT
  • A high level of commitment is expected from coaches, players, and parents. The AYSO EXTRA Program is designed for motivated and enthusiastic players. Any other obligations must be disclosed, and while some players may be involved in other sports, most Extra coaches require that training sessions and games take at least equal precedence with other activities.

Section 1 Rule: No player can be a “club” soccer player during the fall season.

Exemptions can be made in Spring. This is due to Extra teams being allowed to participate in the same tournaments in the Spring.

  • GAMES & TOURNAMENTS

The Extra Program regular season typically runs from early September through July 31, 2027 and is usually comprised of 10 games—half at home and the rest away in surrounding AYSO regions (Southern Californa).

While most games take place on Saturdays, there is a possibility of weekday and Sunday games.

End of fall season, teams can participate in our version of State Cup.

In addition to regular season games, all Extra teams will also participate in AYSO soccer tournaments. Each team is self-funded, and fundraising will be needed to cover tournament expenses. Most tournaments require gameplay on both Saturday and Sunday.

Extra Program COST

$570 for all age groups

Payment can be made in full or made in three installment payments.

Registration costs vary each year due to multiple factors, and they are generally higher than those for the Fall season. Extra Program registration fees cover regional expenses, uniforms, field rentals, and other miscellaneous costs. Additional tournaments may require further expenses such as entry fees, lodging, transportation, and food, which are the responsibility of each family and not included in the registration fee.

However, teams will have opportunities to fundraise to help cover tournaments and additional optional costs. Many Extra Programs also fundraise for items such as backpacks and warm-ups to make participation more affordable for everyone.

TOUCHLINE GUIDELINESBehavior during Matches-Spectators (Family & Friends)

Do not coach the players (even your own child). Don’t tell them

where to go or what to do on the field.

Do not yell at players or spectators from opposing teams.

Do not address the Center Referee or the Assistant Referee during or after a match. This includes loudly making comments not directed at them but made so they can “overhear” what is being said. Act respectfully towards them at all times. If you have a concern communicate it to the coaches.

Sit or stand left of the technical area and at least 4 feet back from the touch line so you don’t interfere with the match.

PARTING THOUGHTS

  • Make the experience fun and challenging.
  • Focus on the players. Remind parents that it is not about them.
  • Everyone out here is a volunteer. When things go wrong handle it with patience and mutual respect.
  • Communicate questions and concerns.
  • You’re not alone in this. You have the support of the EXTRA Staff as well as the other coaches and staff members here in Region 47.
