Social & Emotional Learning Room Purpose

  • In coordination with the Georgia Southern Student Leadership Group and our LCMS Student Leadership Group, we were able to dedicate a classroom in our school to provide for the social and emotional needs of our LCMS students and teachers.

  • The main purpose of our SEL Room is to give our students and teachers a safe space to: cool down, resolve conflicts (Resilience Circles), learn SEL skills, be involved in mentor/mentee sessions, and much more.

  • This learning space is utilized by our SEL Specialist, various wraparound services, teachers, and counselors.
  • Items in this learning space include: flexible seating, LED lighting, inviting colors, culturally responsive texts, a Promethean Board, a fish tank, a mural, and other exciting items planned for the future.

Resilience Writing Purpose & Expectations

  • Purpose: To self-reflect on our past and present experiences, and set specific and attainable goals to build resilience for the future.
  • Expectations: Each week we focus on a theme relating to one of our LCMS core values of: family, leadership, resilience.

Positive Behavior Tickets Overview

  • Positive Behavior Tickets are distributed DAILY to students for being READY-RESPONSIBLE-RESILIENT at LCMS.
  • Tickets can be found throughout our schoolhouse or can be printed HERE>>(Link to Print Tickets)
  • There are NO MAXIMUM number of tickets to distribute each week, so the more the merrier!

  • Positive Behavior Tickets are accumulated throughout the day and turned into students’ last period teachers.
  • Teachers turn student submitted tickets in to the appropriate grade level basket each afternoon or by THURSDAY AFTERNOON (at the latest) each week for our weekly drawings.

  • Each month, students are celebrated for being READY-RESPONSIBLE- RESILIENT!
  • Students that DO NOT have ANY O.D.Rs (Office Disciplinary Referrals) for the month are invited to the Positive Behavior Celebration during their Connections classes.

  • Students who have received an O.D.R that month are placed in the cafeteria during the celebration to receive an SEL lesson to reflect on their previous behavior(s) and set attainable and maintainable goals for the future.

  • In coordination with the SEL Specialist, Connections teachers, and the Positive Behavior Celebration Committee, activities are coordinated for students to complete. (i.e. movies, computer games, team sports, etc.).

  • Each month, LCMS students have the opportunity to attend the Kona Ice Celebration in their assigned lunch period to celebrate their positive behavior for the month..

  • Each month during our Full Family meeting, we honor the family, leadership, and resilience of one student and one educator.
  • These champion students and educators are voted on by a panel of LCMS educators.
  • Once chosen, the selected champion student and educator are surprised in front of our LCMS family accompanied by their family and friends.
