HOW WILL I DEMONSTRATE IT?

YOU WILL BE EXPLORING AN ENVIRONMENTAL TOPIC USING THE PROQUEST ELIBRARY FROM LAUSD DIGITAL LIBRARY, USING THREE SOURCES IN DIFFERENT FORMATS YOU WILL BE WRITING A THREE-PARAGRAPH ESSAY ON YOUR TOPIC USING DIRECT QUOTES, PARAPHRASING, BLOCK QUOTES, IN-TEXT CITATIONS AND WORKS CITED

WHY AM I LEARNING IT?

BESIDES BEING EXPECTED TO HAVE THESE SKILLS IN COLLEGE THEY ARE PART OF THE FOLLOWING LIBRARY STANDARDS:

1.1, 1.2, 1.3 and 3.1

  • Create a folder in your LAUSD Google Drive for this assignment.
  • Title it with “Environmental Essay” and your name
  • Share this folder with me, giving me editing rights.

  • Click on ProQuest eLibrary
  • Scroll down to “Common Assignments”
  • Click on “Environmental Issues”
  • Pick one of the topics.
  • Put the name of your topic in the annotated bibliography where indicated.

  • Make a copy of this rubric and put it in your folder for this assignment.
  • Make a copy of this annotated bibliography and put it in the folder for this assignment.
  • Create a works cited page and put it in the folder for this assignment. This page should only have a title at this point, no entries.

A LITTLE MORE EXPLANATION ON THIS ASSIGNMENT:

  • For the topic you have picked, you will be choosing three different sources of information from ProQuest eLibrary.
  • Each source should be a different format, for example, one newspaper, one reference, one video. It doesn’t matter what the format is, you can only use one of each.
  • You will be using one source in each paragraph of your three-paragraph essay.
  • You will be incorporating the information from the sources, in three different ways: direct quoting, paraphrasing and block quotes, one in each paragraph, one way in each paragraph.
  • Review the notes and videos in the plagiarism PDF.

  • Choose your first source of information.
  • Save to your LAUSD Google Drive or as a PDF and put it into folder for this assignment
  • Complete an entry for it in your annotated bibliography, remember to take good notes from which you will be writing your essay
  • Start thinking about which paragraph of your essay you’re going to use this information in and whether you’re going to use this source as a direct quote, paraphrase or block quote, make a note of this in your annotated bibliography.
