Reception News
This week at Forest school, we learned about the summer solstice - the day with the longest period of daylight and the shortest night of the year, when the sun is at its highest position.
We worked together to make our own suncatchers, using pieces of willow and lengths of wool.

Year 1 News
In RE, we have been retelling the parables from the bible, and discuss the meaning behind the parables. This week, we looked at the parable of ‘The foolish builder’. We answered the question ‘Why do Christian’s believe it is important to listen to God?’. We then drew the houses of the foolish and wise builder and talked about where we would build our house.

Year 2 News
This week, in PSHE, we looked at changes in independence throughout the human life cycle. We enjoyed sharing stories about what we were like as babies and toddlers. In art, we worked on our self-portraits with the help Kristian - St John’s resident artist! We worked very hard and produced some beautiful work. There is definitely a lot of artistic talent in year 2!

Year 3 News
This week, year 3 went to the Estorick Gallery of Modern Italian Art. We had an amazing time looking at the art work and exploring how artists show movement in their paintings and sketches. We also had a great opportunity to use the art work as inspiration for our own sketches and made a flip book.

Year 4 News
Wow! What an exciting week. On Thursday, the year 4 girls went to have a STEM day at a secondary school, while the boys stayed at school and designed superheroes and got to handle some precious antiques. In English, we’ve started a new story all about a goat who finds his home being polluted by plastic bags. We did a plastic bag walk to help us plan descriptive sentences. In maths, we’ve started telling the time again.

Year 5 News
This week in Year 5, we have been focusing on generating some self-portraits for the art exhibition. We had an artist workshop to help us with proportions and shading! As well as this, we had the chance to go to interfaith day - where the class got to listen to a range of people all from different backgrounds and religions. The children asked some very thoughtful questions. Finally, the Y5 girls got to experience a STEM day at Highbury Girl’s school, which they thoroughly enjoyed!

Year 6 News
This week, Year 6 have been busy rehearsing for their end of year show: School of Pop. We have been busy learning and practising our lines, the songs and talking through stage directions and props.
Not only that, we have enjoyed an art workshop, led by Kristian, where we learned about graffiti and street art. We made our own collaged backgrounds and cut out stencils of our faces, then combined the two. The finished pieces will be on display at St John’s Art Gallery coming soon!

‘I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me’
On Tuesday morning, children from Y2 went to Sobell Leisure Centre to compete in the Y2 Primary Schools Gymnastic competition. The children have been working extremely hard to learn new skills an
d remember routines individually and working with a friend. They had a wonderful time, each child received a certificate with their individual results. All our individual results then get added together to total our school score. We can announce that Y2 Gymnasts finished in 3rd place winning a bronze medal. Well Done!

This Week’s Tip: 👀 Always Ask for Permission
